Dream Communicator?

What is your dream communicator? the 9210 is not it, the 9210i is not even near that. So what is it?
here are some of mine
H/W
1. wireless mic
2. larger screen (like palm, sony) hi res Graphics
3. USB 2
s/w
1. linux OS
2. voice rec.

Do not elaborate just features (H/W & S/W). someone from Nokia might be reading this and gets some good ideas for the 93xx or 94xx.

My favourite "communicator" would still be something like an evolution of the Psion Revo; lightweight, with advanced communication apps in firmware, pen-input colour screen, expandable memory & a bluetooth link to a dinky little Nokia GPRS phone.

Hi!
Why shall we not stay with the 9210(i) for the sake of what functionality it gives us.

But if someone needs to know what I really would run the stores - here you are

give me the successor of my 9210 with 1/3 less weight
- bluetooth connections to landline and DSL-Internet-connection
- IrDa and cable printer connection (since this is the most reliable)
- around 32MB RAM (for JAVA, GPS, WWW, ...)
- get rid of UNICODE.
- a standard comms interface for connection to older machines (to move data the easiest way)
- USB for MicroDrive, CD-ROM
- an interface for a "big" keyboard for stationary use

And stay with symbian.

Ralf

I thought it was really intteresting that one of the posts mentions getting rid of UNICODE. Why?

VGA Output would be top banana (though I accept that some brave and innovative developer has already released a solution to attach a 9210 to a VGA device).

Funny, I was just thinking the same thing! I really, really liked my Diamond Mako (besides the lack of backlight, poor battery life, and lack of expandability)...

Anyway, here's my Communicator wishlist

1. More power! It still amazes me how slow my 9210 is. 52MHz should be more than enough for the Communicator but the whole system still slows to a crawl when I switch profiles. Sad.

2. More RAM! You can never have too much User posted image

3. Loose the awful accessory connector, and go with a mini-DIN connector like the 8210/8310/etc.

4. USB!!! I abhor the serial interface!

5. Pleeease do something about PC Suite. I've used PC Suites (or some other PC software) for the 6110, 7110, 6210 and 9110. All of them suck. Cute animations/music when you first pop in the CD, but hey, let's face it, the software sucks.

6. More features. The Communicator should be Nokia's flagship product, why then doesn't it have even a picture message viewer? Much less GPRS, Bluetooth, MMS etc....

Ok, I first need to get a commie. Yup. I don't have one, but I will get one within the next 3 months. I hope the 9210i is out by then.

But here's what want the 9310 to be like

* slimmer. The size is fine, keyboard and LCD need their space. But the thickness is something that should be worked on.

* larger LCD. It's strange that the LCD doesn't cover the entire flip top thing.

* USB

*touch screen. This would also enable the screen to be wider since we wouldn't need those keys on the right. 800x200 pixels, now that would rule !

I'm in AUstria, I don't need GPRS yet. it's too expensive, and HSCDC or whatever it's called is fast enough.

Get rid of UNICODE - Why

Well this may be an easy question to answer for people used to other Symbian / Epoc-powered machines, because they all (upto before the 9210) used ASCII or IBM code pages 850. That's of interest if you want to connect machines without smart software but just via cable and serial interface and exchange data. UNICODE is the cause why data exchange between PSIONS and 9210 wont work that directly, because if you could transfer data, you could NOT read it on the 9210

Greets,
Ralf

I think there should be CF slot preferably CF2 so can use IBM microdrive and able to store lots of pics, movies, and sound files.

Also how about an 802.11 wireless link, so when near a wireless network hub can connect to surf internet or back-up to network remotely.

And if not alreadly mentioned I think USB would be a bonus. 1 for connecting to computer for backup. 2 for connecting a compatible mouse, full-size keyboard, drives, cameras, etc. There is a version of USB that uses a Smaller than normal port (I think it USB b port) that would be ideal on a phone.

And finally for now, REDESIGN the arrow keys. I find it most annoying when moving something with it and at last minute you find you are verring off. (Maybe a small trackball or the Pen option.
