is there a solution yet... n97 photo's

hey all. iv been searching the internet for about 2 weeks now and i just can seem to find a solution to the photo and image problem on the 5800 and n97.
basically i have a photo archive of about 2500 photo's on my phone. there all carefully organized into folders on my mass memory. however nokia's rubbish photo viewer jst piles them all into one huge downloaded folder and there's no way im sorting them all into albums because the phone simply can display enough of the images for me to know where 1 album begins and another1 ends.
on all my previous phones iv used resco photo viewer that is brilliant and suits my needs perfectly, sadly tho there not making a version thats compatable with n97 just yet.
so i tried nokia photo browser and altho displayed in folder order it still tries to load every dam picture on there when i dont need them.
also tried scalado photo viewer wich deals with photo's brillintly, quickly and zooming is awsome, however no folder option or slideshow.
what i need people is a application that browses through folders and can give a slideshow of images in that folder, be it a file explorer app or a photo viewer app.
hope im making sence here. its a real let down. if anyone had encountered the same problem or has a solution please reply as i would like to get this simple yet annoying problem solved..

i'm with you on this one mate, and as far as i am aware there is no solution. what is the point of having all that memory if you can't make effective use of it?

i really like nokia photo browser, but its too slow at bringing up the photos, pointless when you have as many as i do

really not happy with nokia on this one

I'm actually going to side with Nokia on this one, you're asking for what I feel would be an unused pointless application. Put the pics on your PC, I don't bring my old photos from one phone to the next. I dont think they gave the N97 32GB of memory because they thought people wanted to store 10-20k pictures..

horses for courses mate, it would not be unused or pointless to me

given all the COMPLETELY pointless apps out there (eg rotary dialer) i don't think this is asking for too much

the whole point of 32 GB is for us to put whatever we want on it- yes i could use my pc but isn't that how they sell the N97 - a pc in my hand? the flagship multimedia phone should be able to deal with such a basic request. besides, you can say that about everything that doesn't work/isn't there - just use your pc- thats not acceptable!

Sorry no sympathy on this one. If you can't be bothered to sort out your photos and videos in to albums and or add tags then its your problem. You would take time to do this on your computer . I to have 1000 plus photos all in albums and the most viewed on tags and every thing works great. every time I take a photo i put into the album i want straight away no probs . sorry just sounds like some one trying to make a problem that's not there. In my view.

Nokia photo broswer, from betalabs, got Folder View option. You will see all files tho, but there is separator between folders.

Me thinks we are just going to have to agree to disagree. Photos are already arranged into folders, just want to view them in grid view per folder. Or well, perhaps in another lifetime..... Photo browser is great but toooo slooooow

nokia photo browser is brilliant and all that i need... however the only problem with it is that it still loads all photo's instead of a single folder that i want, this takes up cpu and therefore time loading images. it'd be great to have a slideshow option in filemanager to be honest.
and as far as not been bothered as some1 suggested... my photo's are all ogranized on my pc, in folders, dated. it works brilliantly and when resco photo viewer was available for whatever phone i had, n80, 95, n96... there were organized the same way.... the problem with your way is iv got 2500 photo's in my downloaded folder.... want to add them to albums so can organize them as u suggest is easy, however cos genius nokia software wacked them all in one folder there are photo's that dont load so what happens then...
guess ill have to sit there goin thru the lot untill someone programs a app with this simple option... god😞

Hi all
I have just got my new N97 and as Mat rightly says the photo viewing is not good...or am i doing something wrong?
On my pc i have some 5500 photos that i want on the N97, hey the space is there and it nice to carry photos round to show the family etc.
I have everything on the PC in folders and all photos named.

1. why the hell cant the Nokia photos application just import all those folders in as albums?

2. So i took hours creating albums of the same names as the folders on the PC and dragging each lot of photos from each folder into the relative album only to find that in nokia photo browser they dont show in folders even when set to show in folders. Photos is ok that shows in albums but can you imagine how hard it is to find 1 picture scrolling through all those 5500 photos?

3. So i put all the photos into albums to find that they dont transpose onto the phone into albums like say the itouch or iphone does. This way you flick through some 50 or so album/folder names and bingo there are my holiday cyprus pictures and i open the folder.

I have to say it sucks and for me its pointless, if i have 20 pictures to look at no problem.

Oh yeah and as a few say photo browser is too slow!
Oh and it took around 18 hours to get the photos onto the nokia via USB, admitedly i set the setting to small so it was compressing but i did the same on my partners i touch and it took 2 hours or less.

Stew HELP ME NOKIA or anyone

I put some old photos into downloads .. then tagged them ( in fact you don't need to tag them individually .. you can add the whole downloads to an Album) .. added them to an Album ..

Maybe thats the method you need to adopt - since you're only going to do it once .. you should expect it to take a little time ..

so take "folder" contents send to downloads .. add to Album .. delete downloads .. repeat for next "folder" etc ..

hi there
Yeak i have managed to get all the albums created in nokia photos now and drag the contents from my pc folders into them, i can then drag the individual albums onto the n97, god does this take forever though, so slow just to dump 5mb.
Just downloaded a new update to nokia photos that was released on the 1st september so lets see if that helps!
Eagerly awaiting a new firmware update though, where is it nokia/vodafone?

thanks
stewart

I agree to MatLampitt. Nokias handling of pics is strongly improvable. Also, the spoken functions like "tags" and "album" are nice. But, for example they are not available if I want insert a photo to a contact or if I want select photos for backround presenation. Nokia calls his phone "Multimedia Computer" - so a perfect photo managment is a must.

I kind of see your point, but you seriously carry around 5000 pictures so your family can see them? You are what the "fake text message" app was built for!

I guess your best bet is to contact Nokia directly, you can give feedback at the betalabs for the photo browser software, ask them to include a folder/album option, you never know, they may be working on it!

Yeah sad or what, actually i dont carry them all round but i justthink the software sucks. It is so slow it is unreal, if i drag one album to the phone it takes around 15 mins for 30 pictures then i have to reset the phone before i can drag the next album. Driving me insane!
Emailed nokia and they said sorry but that is the way it is in short.😡

Agree with Matt and Spirit44.. I don't have 5000 photos on my phone, probably around 700 taken over the last 18months. I store these on my Mass memory and until recently, they were all in Month order, this was excellent and made finding specific photos a breeze. Something happened (I don't know what???) but now they are all heaped in the Download folder and hard to access. I went to send an email and wanted to attach a photo. The phone couldn't find it !!! It was on the Mass memory storage but not available as an add option through attachments. Does anyone have a solution to re-find all the pictures and re-populate them back into the Month order?? THanks johnT
