N97 NOW only supports Maps 2.0

Is it me or are all of us N97 owners getting very seriously short changed with EVERYTHING.

I am now onto my 5th Nokia N97 with various problems from rattling phones to creaky back covers to scratching noises on the haptic vibrate function i seem to have had them ALL. Now i'm pretty happy with this one in terms of hardware only to try using Maps this weekend to find out that the software doesn't work at all. I have no way of getting the magnetic compass to work due to me having the auto rotate on. "oh sorry nokia, i am sorry i have to turn that OFF in order to get it to work?" WHY???????

Okay so the magnetic compass doesnt work and i'm stuck in Wembley north west london and need to get back to Woking surrey so I thought as i didnt know the area i'd use the navigation. Why the hell did I do that, it kept dropping out, and I was always at the turnings before they reached me on the map. What the hell is the point in that.

It now turns out that Maps 3.0 is not supported on this phone http://europe.nokia.com/explore-services/maps/features# but yet it is available on the lesser (non flagship) 5800. WHY???????

I want answers and I want them now. Nokia Care do not and cannot help with anything and neither can their dedicated regenesis backed Helpine.

the best or most important one of a group or system

I like many of you have paid 500+ for this phone only to not get ANYTHING that we were shown and sold on TV or in the retail outlets such as Transitions, GPS Navigation and Seemless Connectivity with the internet.

What can we do? Do we all get together and get them to sort it out. I have the address of their complaints department and I am VERY VERY close to writing a legal document to them.

I'm sorry having a product that has been demoted in terms of software availability is the last straw for me and i'm getting tired of it.

Agree 100% (uh-oh - it's Dave again).

I've never been as indifferent to a new phone as I am to my n97... My n95 was still exiting until Dec 2008 when the N97 was announced. And look where that got me...

I haven't touched my N97 in a month, it is sat on my desk doing nothing, it is the last highend Nokia that I will buy, doesn't come close to the way it was marketed.
You can wait a year until Nokia fix it via firmware, and I am not sure they can this time.
Me I've moved on, have a iPhone 3gs now.

Went to the link at Nokia Maps and you're right--they show the N97 as compatible with Maps 2.0.

That explains why my N97 GPS worked well with Maps 2.0 and very poorly with 3.0 and 3.1.

Something I was noticing in 3.1 today was that there is no way to calibrate for elevation in the Location applet like there was in version 2.0.

It was showing me at about 20-70 fee below seal level when I was really about 142 feet above seal level.

There must be some real device/chip issues with the N97 and the Maps application.

well i am still getting major problems with maps 2.0 on my handset. My accuracy when outside fluctuates between 47 metres and 23 metres on the GPS signal. Why the hell should we be sent an OTA for maps 3.1 update when it clearly states that Nokia now no longer support it on their N97. I will say it again. ITS THEIR FLAGSHIP DEVICE THAT CAN'T RUN MAPS 3.0 how stupid. infact it's a little pathetic.

maps 3.1 works brilliantly for me and I'm not just trying to throw a spanner in the works. I've been to 3 client meetings in the last week and been guided there by the 3.1 application. Two out of 3 times it took me (on postcode alone to within about 30feet of the place I was due to be headed to. Yesterday I had to do a little searching but I was in the middle of nowhere and was still no more than about 500feet away.

I've found, when in a car and holding the phone in the hand, it will lose lock frequently. However, when in a cradle on the windscreen the lock is almost full about 95% of the time 😊

i upgraded to v12. But can't uninstall or run maps 3. Its not in the Installed Apps list. So i cant remove it. And it give me error then i want to run it. Any ideas how to delete it?
