N97 microphone cuts out when making a call on loudspeaker!

Hi

Does anyone else find that when making a call the microphone on their N97 cuts out when used in loudspeaker mode?

For example when in the car i will accept a call and put it to loudspeaker and use it handsfree. I can hear them fine but it seems my replies cut in and out so they only hear half of what i say.

This feature worked with no problems on my n95 in the same position etc.

I phoned nokia and they said take it to a repair store and they will try and fix it as its most likely a software issue. I'm guessing all they will do is a firmware reinstall - what do you think?

Give me some opinions! 😃

Saw this mentioned on the Nokia support discussion.

Opinion seems to be that the noise cancelling is a little over enthusiastic if you're not in a silent room and tends to cancel your speech entirely if the other party is talking...

I've not noticed but I don't use speakerphone very much...

Yeah, i've noticed this too. Mines intermittent, Still its probably a good thing, makes me use my bluetooth headset!

I have noticed this aswell happened when i was on the phone to the 3 repair line and they where getting me to fiddle with settings to fix the problems I'm having.

Yes, I face the same problem too. I read on another forum that the v12 firmware update has fixed this. I haven't updated my N97 firmware yet, but would do that soon and see if it fixes the issue.

Sent my N97 back to Nokia 3 times for this problem, the third time they said that it was unrepairable so they sent me a refurbed one........still has the same problem. Now after my persistence, they have sent me a Return Materials Authorisation, to send it back and they are going to send me a brand new one.
I still dont hold out much hope as on other forums it seems that this fault effects a lot of phones, but of course if some people dont use the speaker phone they will be unaware, making it difficult to assess if all N97s suffer from this.
Have a look here.

Phoned Nokia care today to make sure they had received my returned N97 and asked when I can expect my brand new replacement and was informed that it was all going through and was awaiting dispatch from the warehouse and I would have it ................on 2nd November:rofl:
I don't know why it has to wait that long and it will mean that I will have been without my Nokia Rubber dingy for a total of 54 days. I asked why it would take that long and they told me it was normal procedure to wait 30 days from when they sent the RMA email.
I would have thought that all the aggro I have had they would get one sent to me by next day delivery.
I then asked for a refund, as having spent 499 on a phone I don't expect to be without it for this long, they declined.
I have told them to keep the new replacement N97. Nokia do not seem to have made any effort and have wasted my time so today I have sent a letter by Special delivery requesting a refund due to phone not being fit for purpose, within the next 14 days or I will issue proceedings in the small claims court.
I have had it with Nokia.

OK yesterday I sent a letter by Special Delivery to Nokia UK Head Office to inform them of my intention of court action if I did not receive a full refund along with out of pocket expenses(4 return visits to a Nokia care centre total 174 miles).
Today I have received an email to say they are dispatching a new replacement N97 and will be charging me 499! The phone should be with me in 3 to 4 days.
I have phoned Nokia Care asking why they are sending me a replacement N97 when I want a refund and they said that my problem had been escalated to senior UK management at Nokia UK.
They confirmed that I would not be charged for the replacement and that there was not an option for a refund.I tried to explain the UK Sale Of Goods Act, but she still told me that they were sending a new replacement, which is also not normally an option after 30 days.
She was able to quote me details of yesterdays letter(she is based in the USA)
I have asked her to stop the delivery of the replacement phone and she said she would try!
I am going to take it to court if they do not give me a full refund along with expenses as Nokia have had plenty of time and opportunity to sort all this out and they could have handled this better if they had not have sent me on a wild goose chase back and forth to the Nokia care centre 4 times only to finally confirm that this was an unrepairable fault.
I have now purchased a non Nokia phone and will ensure I never have another Nokia phone again.
I will now send a second complaint to Watchdog regarding the above problems I have had it with Nokia.

god, you must REALLY use the loudspeaker to go through all this!

Good on you though, when you spend 500 on a device it should (at the very least) do what it says on the tin.

keep us informed of what happens, the more people that do this the more likely it is that Nokia will pull their finger out and improve their customer/repair service

Hi Yes I use it most of the time. When I make a call to family, it goes on to speakerphone so that both my wife and myself can talk and listen together.
We live many miles away from our kids and grandchildren so this is how we get to talk together.
This always worked great on my N95 8gb but the N97 just does not do it!

Nightmare!

Just a bit of added info re: the legal action from my limited knowledge... Did you buy the phone direct from Nokia? If not, then legally your complaint needs to be with the place you bought it from AFAIK.

But if you went straight to Nokia then I'm not sure how this would effect your rights in that respect.

Good luck! Are you going to get an Iphone?!

Hi Banvibarn, The phone was purchased direct sim free from Nokia UK, so they are responsible for supplying an inherently defective phone which is unfit for the purpose it was purchased for.

Brand new N97 arrived this morning but It was delivered to the delivery address the original phone was dispatched to,which is my daughters house. I was staying there for 2 weeks back in June.
All correspondence from me to Nokia has been issued from my own address, also my home address was clearly stated on the original order as this was paid for by credit card and required the registered address for that credit card.
It would appear that my letter asking for a refund or the initiation of court proceedings caused Nokia to rush out an un-required new replacement.

15/10/2009
Have today sent a letter to inform Nokia of their wrongly addressed un-required replacement and asked them to arrange collection of the phone.I have reiterated my request for a full refund including expenses.
Failure to refund will result in court action being initiated on 26/10/2009.
