Google's native S60 YouTube client has just got itself a significant update, to v2.2.17, now working in full-screen mode (at last!) on S60 5th Edition phones like the N97, 5800 and Samsung i8910 HD and with new countries and languages added to its officially supported list: Brazil, Czech Republic, Poland, Russia and Sweden. You can get the update by going to m.google.com in Web on your phone. More shortly.
Read on in the full article.
Not available here on the N97. Confirmed on 5800. N97 still just heads for the vanilla web version, not download.

Why's the video so pixelated? Can't it access the same streams as the iPhone and iPod Touch does?
the video quality at the mobile site is much better than the quality of the client. So I see no reason to use the client on my n97...
For N97, just use the SIS file for the 5800? See the link above and let us know how it works?
I installed this update v2.2(17) to my previously working version but got the following error on 5800 "Error, Could not connect, Problem with network connection".
No other application is currently having a network error.
I have 5800 v21.0.025 on t-mobile and wifi. Previous working youtube client was v2.2(9).
I have tried uninstalling any previous version. Rebooting. And then installing the new version but I still get the same error.
"Error, Could not connect, Problem with network connection"
I have reinstalled v2.2(9) but it now also gives the error.
"Error, Could not connect, Problem with network connection"
At least I can still go to m.youtube.com in native browser and all works fine there.

Yes - worked a trreat. Thanks.
Weird, on the N97 when you goto m.youtube.com and select "Switch To Standard Player" (or normal player can't remember what the option is) The video play in fullscreen with NO borders, but using the above app there are some borders on the N97. Nick

I just checked one of my own movies that I uploaded from my N97, and it shows in full wide screen without any borders. This goes for all the movies I've uploaded 😊
Thanks for heads up Steve. Works fine on my Omnia HD.
Shame that the video quality is still crap though...
I use vtap ver 1.11
it searches youtube anyways and ebaum or vids off of myspace, dailymotion and more. It goes full screen. Lists of videos begin as you are still entering text.
allaboutsymbian stuff whay dont you do a youtube solutions comparison?
client vs site vs vtap vs...
The video quality is completely and utterly rubbish. Waste of space, this app!! Try watching that Usain Bolt clip that you can see in the first image in this article, and you'll see what I mean. I'm watching on the i8910.

Well, the videos do depend on the quality of the original clip, maybe that one wasn't a good example. Also, I'd hope that Google would gradually ramp up the streaming resolution and bitrate at their end now that more and more high-spec phones are watching....
