Odd Bug

Just got my N97 and its a generic UK one, updated to version 11 software, no 12 over here yet.

I got some picture messages from a friend and they were, well the colour was way off and the picture pixelated. They were a resend and they appeared fine on my N96 originally. Pics from an iPhone or Samsung Tocco ultra were fine. I fired up PC Suite and it sees them fine. I save them out and they come up as .png files. All the rest are .jpg. So I am guessing the N97 cant decode .png files properly. Saved them as .jpg in Photoshop and uploaded to the phone. No probs seeing them.

Anyone else had this?

Also getting frustrated any content I put on the Mass Memory like photos I have to go to Downloads to see. There is no Show All option as there was on the N96. Oh why do I not keep my N96? I would if it didn't get pick pocketed while I was on holiday! so took the opportunity to upgrade.

And now you've been robbed by Nokia too!

The N97 uses png for backgrounds and in widgets so can decode them fine.

What happens if you view them from file manager?

Interesting. If the picture is viewed in the MMS its distorted and pixelated. If I go to 'View Image' on its own, its fine.

Robbed, probably. Im a sucker when it comes to new stuff, even if there are bugs. lol!

Just be careful with the lens cover...

Is the image bigger than the thumbnail view in an mms? If so, it's probably just the thumbnailing algorythms that are screwy...

Can you view it full size from the MMS?

I think the actual picture is slightly smaller. If I open the MMS and double tap on the picture it comes up fine, and is slightly smaller. So its the MMS display algorithms for a PNG which are screwed up it seems.

Yeah I read about the lens cover. Is it dirt or what that scratches it? Can the cover be taken off?

is the mms issue the same portrait and landscape?

light downward pressure with the smallest motes of dust seems to do it... but not all n97's seem to be affected...

Same both portrait and landscape.
