OK, I've been thinking. What would you like to see in a future firmware for the N97. I'm not talking bug fixes either, but changes.
What I'd like to see is: -
- Multiple homescreens, swipe left/right/up/down for different views
- Double height widgets with proper functionality (currently widgets just launch the main app when clicked. i want to be able to do stuff in the widget)
- Better music player - the current one is soooo dated
- Pick icons for folders
1. Allow you to 'pre-approve' Java apps for data access so you don't get prompted about asking them to access the network each time they start.
2. Add some keyboard shortcuts:
- Cut, copy, paste
- Top of page, bottom of page in web browsers
3. Multiple windows and an easy way to switch between them in the browser.
4. Virtual RAM.
5. Fully integrated Skype and SIP support, working over WiFi and 3G data so...
- Support for it in contacts (you can list Skype ID, etc and dial from there)
- Widget for homescreen showing contacts online (or indicate if online via existing contact images on the homescreen).
6. The option of kinetic scrolling on all menus

7. Enable an option so you can open the keyboard when on the homescreen and just start typing the name of a contact, like the E71
Continuous scrolling with speed control (in addition to kinetic scrolling).
Predictive screen fetch (preload) so that different displays load faster!
with whatever key-set you'd like to use .. eg double-byte Japanese/Chinese input.
just like iPhone/iPod Touch .. for better indoor/city mapping.
I think the i8910 has a pre-lookup solution for this .. their app is GPS+ seems much better in closed city environments where you're unlikely to get a satellite lock.
On that note - how about some proper resolution Maps for Japan?
DivX Playback, Native VoIP/SIP Integration, Multi-Select Messages (like you can pictures in the gallery).
While not strictly firmware related, improved AAC/M4A ? to correctly get all the right tags and album artwork for my iTunes music which is larger than 10 minutes.
Two home screens for more widgets... Double height widgets (eg for more Calendar information/Email).
Give the video editing option from within video playback itself.
Bring back the option to edit "labels" within contacts, so instead of "Telephone" and "Telephone (business)", allow me to edit to say "Sales" "Support" "Boss" etc.
