Hi everybody,
I have been using my N97 for a couple of months now, and have also updated the firmware to v12. My problem is that the phone freezes when I receive the call and want to hang up.
So I receive a call, swipe my finger to answer, it actually answers the call, but when I want to hang up, I find the phone has already freezed on the swipe-your-finger screen. This happens couple of times a week :con?
Anyone having this problem??
I am using N97 RM-505 running v12.
Thanks
Hi there,
Most probably this is due to low memory.. have you check your C: space left? I have it a about 10MB at least and that is still acceptable.
I had my C: space lower than 4MB before and the phone responses started to crawling.

I also have this problem it can't be low memory on c as i have almost 30Mb free.
Im also on v12 and i still have the ringtone problem where i set my own tone yet sometimes when i get a call it will ring with the nokia tone.
Mine would do that back at v10 firmware--I found that if I swiped to answer, it would answer the call but then I could not hang up or end call without removing the battery!!!
I got in the habit of swiping to unlock, then waiting for the Answer call button to appear. Since upgrading firmware to v12, I have not tried the swipe to answer yet.
VERY POORLY DESIGNED SOFTWARE FOR THE PHONE FUNCTIONS, NOKIA !
@truemax. I have 45mb available on the C drive and about 50mb free of RAM so niether can be the problem.
@theblob. I know, it is just annoying. And btw, I didn't have the ringtone problem since I bought the phone.
@rdcinhou. It seems that the every single N97 is shipped with a different software!!!
Thank you all for you responses.
I agree with you Nafar, i dont think its the RAM. i have to turn the phone off as it freezes.
I dont think Nokia have really given this phone the 'flagship' attention.
I am wondering.........just how much polish can you give a turd:icon4:
I had an issue where if my phone was on meeting with just beeps for alerts, it wouldn't. It wouldn't even show a text message had come in. What I did in the end was backup then did a restore to factory defaults and restored my contacts and stuff. Problem has gone away since.
Plus I did have a lot of stuff on the C drive, so that also cleared it all. I know we shouldn't have to do this, but until there is a version 13 or 14 hopefully one can but fiddle.
Im on v11 BTW.
Same problems here, loads of space on C: and on latest firmware and phone still freezes after answering some calls. Ring tone issue also encountered.
What I can advise - don't ever copy large volumes of data to the mass storage if you are using Nokia Suite connection mode. It eats away at your available space on C: - I performed hard reset and all worked fine again except for freezing and now lately the Nokia ring tone issue.
This has nothing to do with RAM and I also don't think its FW issue specific as I had this problem all the time on v12 and it also occurs on v20.
rdcinhou has the right solution, this is the ONLY way I can stop the phone from freezing.
When a call comes in AND the screen is locked, you have two options:
Slide from left to right to answer the call - DO NOT do this as it locks up the phone
Slide from right to left to unlock. When you do this, you are presented with the four buttons; Answer, Reject etc. This is the correct option, answer the call and the phone does not lock up.
Of course, these injstructions only apply to those of us who have the call answering bug, some N97's answer calls with no problem.
When the screen is unlocked, yoou get the four option buttons anyway, I do find it odd that I have to treat the phone a certian way in order for it not freeze, and we're talking about a basic telephone function, not something 'fancy'.
I must admit I have always used the swipe to unlock and then the button to answer. I have never used the swipe to answer immediately.
Probably why I have never had a problem but....
...as you say, this is a basic phone function. Since the N97 has one I *should* just be able to touch the green button to answer the phone, just as I did with dozens of phones before hand.
I know most of us don't use these phones as "phones" these days, but as portable computers, but still - the primary application should just work.

I use swipe to answer all the time and I have this problem with fw 11,12, but no problem at all with fw 20.
I have this problem with V20 - Slide to answer. Freezes the phone, can take the call ok but the slide to answer screen freezes on. Have to pull the battery to get the phone back after the call.

As mentioned in my post above, do not take this option IF you have problems with this specific bug.
Use the other opton - Slide to Unlock, then press 'Answer' to take the call. This should not lock up the phone.

Will do 😉 Nokia know about this one do they?
