Red Bend, the company behind the Firmware Over The Air update system in most of the smartphones covered here (with the notable exception of Samsung, which doesn't appear to have FOTA yet), has just announced that its FOTA software is now used by just over half a billion mobile devices worldwide, over 413 different devices. This represents a 60% share of the FOTA-enabled mobile phone market. See Red Bend's site for more information.

Check out the image they've used for the N97 on their site 😃
Also many of the devices listed have never seen a FOTA update released for them! Although we can't blame red bend for that.
Yes, saw that image. It's what happens when you give a trainee or non-tech person the job of 'here's a list of devices - go and find an image for each' 8-)
I like the Sharps with widescreen . Also interesting will be their NetWalker coming up soon .

It's amazing that they'd use that image for the N97. I had a good laugh.
I was somehow convinced that FOTA support was provided by Symbian, starting from 3rd ed. FP2 onward. However this explains a lot, for example why the i8910 HD doesn't have it.
So what does the Symbian Foundation do, exactly? I mean, apart from doodling robot ducks. Symbian^2 still doesn't support resolutions above qHD, nor multi-touch (which would be useful for typing and gaming).
Anyone remember the movie iRobot?
Yeah, maybe not a great idea to leave it all up to one company, lol.
