New 2.0 Firmware Announced at NW09

Coming in October apparently...

To include (although they said it'll be shown later)

- Kinetic scrolling
- New transitions
- Extra widgets

There was some mention of some "lifecasting" tool too, enabling facebook updates from homescreen, etc in conjuction with N97 mini.

Didn't catch if that was going to cascade into new N97 regular firmware...

Was hoping this would be before the end of September, but oh well! At least more RAM is on the horizon (how much though?)

No mention of Skype either...

v2 is the make or break update for me. If it disappoints the N97 is going on the bay or in the bin and I'm bidding Nokia farewell.

P.S. N97 mini - 450! It's not April 1st is it?

The timing and scope of the update sounds about right for the promised Skype integration too. That said, odd that it wasn't mentioned in the keynote when discussing technology partnerships (Microsoft was the chosen example).

Sounds promising, I was thinking of hacking my N97 to get the transition themes, but if they're really coming then i can wait till October!

Trying to keep up to date with NW, but have no sound at work, so Videos are useless. Anybody reading text of it anywhere?

There is a good text feed from AAS here:

I'm sure the version number will be v20x - I think Nokia's policy is to increment the first digit when there is significant new functionality and increment the second digit for fixes. Where the decimal point goes doesn't matter, but I guess it's easier to market a "v2" than a v20.

De ja vue... I remember that I was on the point of slinging my N95 and N95 8GB until the release of V2+ and then it completely changed the handsets.

I bet Nokia love us early adopters, or unpaid beta testers as they probably call us. 😉

w007!

Sound promising, still haven't been able to update my white unbranded UK handset to v12 yet tho, sound like this one will be worth the wait!

(P.S. No mention of Lens Cover DC?)

Looks real good. I must admit, i havent had many problems lately. Although i'm still on V11 (VF branded 😞) still happy with the phone.

Looking forward to V2 😃

I'm happy with V12. Does the job for me. Any improvements over that are all a bonus. No more hangings, or restarts, or freezes.

Never had any lens issues as I stuck some screen protector bit on the straight away.

Have even got my typing sorted out, can type pretty fast, not as good as my old E71 though!

Answering my own question:

"V2 firmware for N97/N97 Mini coming in October. N97/N97 mini will run exactly the same software

New Api’s for online/offline.

Kinetic scrolling across the board, where list goes below the screen. IN list view and in applications/grid view too. Available for developers too.

SIP framework fully integrated with address book. Skype will be distributed as separate app since October. Only N97 N97/mini for now. Fully integrated with phone logs, call logs, address book."

ah, great news!

shame I haven't been able to get v12 yet, but whatever, i can't wait for the skype integration!

No word on screen transitions though. I watched the video on Nokia Blog and there don't seem to be any.
