With Ovi, you can now keep your Facebook friends up to date where you are and what you are doing in a new way.

Right from the home screen of your Nokia N97, you can lifecast the street address you are at, and your friends can see your location on a map. You can also share a meaningful location from the nearby places of interest or your favourite place that you have saved on Ovi MapsBeta. To show your friends what a great spot you are exploring, you can take a photo, and attach it to your Facebook post.

This is an exclusive preview of a new Ovi service for the first early birds. Download the Ovi lifecasting widget NOW to make sure you are one of the first exclusive beta users!
I'm pretty confused. The Social Messaging and Lifecasting apps seem to do the same thing (at least for the time being - I get that the Lifecasting app pitches greater scope at the end of its video). They both seem to be about adding location-aware updates to Facebook...

So... let me get this right... your girlfriend, wife, boyfriend, husband, Uncle Tom Cobley and all can see where you are at any given time... B*gger! :afraid:

I already use this with Google Latitude, then an app called footprints on Facebook, it tracks me, but it's not that accurate, hopefully this one will be better.

it's good when you're meant to be meeting someone and you can see that they're on their way to the same spot you are on the map! (you can add friends)

I installed it, and it worked just fine also without the new maps beta beta alphabeta. (3.01 installed)

not being the most technical chap around, can someone explain this to me?!?

i downloaded and installed it, and the widget is on my homescreen. At the moment it keeps saying that it cannot determine my location, but presumably it will at some point when i leave the office

how does someone else find out where i am then? do i need to do something to tell people where i am, or is it automatic? how/where do they see it?

thank you!😃

It found my position rather quickly, but you have to post to facebook before your status gets updated. If you added a photo, it will create a new photo album called "Ovi photo album". On your status on facebook, the address will be displayed with your message, and a bit.ly-link to the ovi-map (within facebook) with your position marked. (it also post to your wall).
A bit overkill that one maybe. One posting gave me 3 wall-posts + status change.

Mine wont find my location, even though it's meant to use A-GPS and google maps gets it within 40m in about 4 seconds! "Sorry, you can not lifecast at the moment"

Also @ Dave, those guys in the video look creepy!! Why do it?!

Is that the electronic equivalent of leaving your jacket on the back of your office chair when you sneak off for a crafty 4pm pint? 😃

Been using it for about a week, doesnt quite get the exact property number, usually one or two out or picks up the house directly oposite where the attractive single lady lives :S

Can you install this on mass memory? I tried their social networking beta yesterday and that could only be installed on C:\. So I immediately removed it. I assuming since its Ovi we are in the same boat?

I've just uninstalled lifecasting and social messaging for expired amusement value.

Neither of them are yet mature enough and/or useful enough to keep.

And installing to drives other than c:\ is a must! especially with social messaging caching all the facebook images...
