Re-sets. What's the difference...

Have done a quick search on the forum, but am slightly dazed and confused....as usual, but that a story for another day.

Have seen one method to re-set the N97 which is the usual series of numbers, can't remember exactly, but something like *hash7370* ( laptop doesn't have a hash key! ) .

The other is combination of keyboard presses - Shift, Space and backspace.

What is the difference between the two?

Last time, I wanted a soft re-set, but did a hard one and ended up having to re-install all my data. I want to free up space on the C drive. I've got around 17mb free now, have so far:

Cleared the cache
Deleted unwanted Apps ( Amazon, Bloomberg, Facebook etc )
Deleted all messages , text and emails.
Moved all Apps stored on C to E as poss
Changed settings for Ovi to install to E
Re-set Google Maps.

I had to get rid of a lot of these in order to install the latest version of Ovi Maps, have now installed that. I'm sure it should still be much higher than the 17mb it's showing?

I know there has been loads of discussions on resetting C drive, so apologies for asking again....:frown:

cheers.

1) Soft Reset *#7780# . Found also in Menu > Factory Settings .
Sets the phone back to the original Factory Settings . No personal data are lost .
2) Hard Reset *#7370# is clearing C: + RAM , settings , personal data , etc. (you know)
3) "Vulcan Death Grip" .
Phone : Off . Press and hold Shift + Space + Backspace , while turning phone On ( for N97) .
I don't think there is much difference between 2) and 3) . The advantage of 3) is clear in cases the phone doesn't boot up properly . Also advised when you are going to sell your trusty phone .

lap top doesn't have a hash key !!!!!! doesn't have a hash key !!!! what kind of crappy lap top is that

The only time I have ever needed the hash key so far, is to have to type that re-set formula. In the month or so I've had, have never needed it for any function at all. How many times have you actually needed a hash key?

I love my Macbook Pro, wouldn't swap it for any delinquent Windoze machine , even if it did have a stoopid hash key....

Now please dont talk like that again, Im afraid you'll hurt my laptop's feelings...
😃

aaww Notty

I sorry

Please give your lovely lovely hash free macbook pro (pro and yet with no hash !! ) a kiss and a cuddle from me 😊

Good Morning nottmbantam.

If you go to your Applications folder and open Fontbook you will see a list of your fonts, you can navigate to a particular font in the list, click on it then go to the menu bar at the preview menu and select "Repertoire"

This will show you all the extra symbols like the hash key or fractions too depending on the font.
