Just found this pretty comprehensive guide to getting quake 2 running on the n97

Took me ages to get working, so this is right handy. And it's very cool if you've got enough free RAM 😉

Hi Dave,
Love your site by the way.
Can you help me with this part in finding files for quake:
I installed the 4 items :
Virtualkey
http://koti.mbnet.fi/hinkka/pips_noki...
http://koti.mbnet.fi/hinkka/quake_v10...
http://koti.mbnet.fi/hinkka/quake2_v1...
anyway quake I & II don't load and i assume im missing the files below....
---------------------
From YOU TUBE :
You know you need the original gamefiles to be able to play. Complete instructions about what to do with that files are HERE
---------------------
But i think he is missing a link.
Thanks in advance Andrew
Yeah. um. You pretty much need to own the game to have those files..
As I recall it'll work with the shareware demo version too,
Quake 2 is at http://download.cnet.com/Quake-II-demo/3000-7563_4-10243474.html
Quake 1 is shockingly poor on the N97 cos of the lack of graphics acceleration, I wouldn't bother with it. (Rocks on the N95 for what it's worth. Played it all the way through).
Quake 2 works, but the RAM issues on the N97 make it a bit clunky in places. Maybe V20 will run it better *sigh*
Once you've got the Quake 2 demo you'll need to either install it to a PC (to get the various pack files out) or extract them from the installer (more advanced).
The files you need are listed at http://koti.mbnet.fi/hinkka/installation.html
Hi,
Thanks for that. I actually fluked it and worked it out just after i posted it.
I find Quake 2 is really smooth on mine apart from every time i go under water it just crashes lol, so pointless playing.
Hmmm ye hopefully the V20 firmware solves that for me.
Thanks again
I'm near certain it's crashing because of running out of RAM... so fingers crossed...
The only downside to having quake on your phone is all the death and injury sound effects end up in the "play all" playlist in the media player. Can be a little disconcerting in the car, by yourself, late at night...
First time I heard something go "Arrrgggghhh *gurgle*" I was like 'WTF was that?!?!?' for a few seconds...

LOL... I get a simialr thing, but perhaps not quite as scary... a Tarzan and cartoon running, noise! 😊
Hello davecozens
Can you give me some live support to install quake..
I can't get it install.
You can help me over teamviewer or messenger? 😊
Sorry Tw1nz, I don't use any online chat things I'm afraid.
If you let us know what steps you're following and what errors you get I'm sure we're all try to help...

I've followed several guides to running Quake 2 on the Nokia N97, impeccably, but it just won't start.
I guess the problem somehow is firmware/product code related, because I can't think of anything else that might interfere at this point. Does anyone have any suggestions? 😊
Thanks
I realized what was wrong; the guides I've read all suggested that the files should be copied to the memory card. But all files must be installed to the mass memory, at least on my N97.
I wrote a really through tutorial to playing Quake on the Nokia N97 in case anyone else has problems getting the ports to run 😊
How to Play Quake on Symbian^1 (Nokia N97)
Cheers
I can;t upload in my memeory card. should i use any other way?
