Music on the p800

Okay so i can only fit about 3-4 mp3s on the fone, and wma files wont transfer.

Whats the best format to put these onto the phone ?

You usually use wavs for ringtones. About the mp3s, sad to say that until a bigger capacity MS come out, thats all the songs you can load to the P800

You can reencode the mp3 into smaller bitrate, that sounds like radio quality but you can store alot more.. for a 16MB that is. I have an anime episode and 3 mp3s(cd single) right now, and uses less than 16MB.

why not encode them in MP3 pro, average file size for a 5 min track at 128kbs is around 1.8mb~2mb
why not encode them in MP3 pro, average file size for a 5 min track at 128kbs is around 1.8mb~2mb
because mp3pro is evil.

I CONVERT MY MP3S INTO MP4 WHICH REDUCES THE SIZE OF A SONG DRAMATICALLY!!

I GOT ABOUT 10 FULL SONGS, I CAN KEEP GOING STILL GOT 4.3 MB FREE!

ALTHOUGH THE QUALITY IS RADIO QUALITY STILL SOUNDS EFFECTIVE WITH THE HEADPHONES

U KNO ME, Can you share with us the process and apps you use to convert your MP3s into MP4s?

Thanks!

I use quicktime Pro to cut the size of the Mp3. It takes a while until you get the right balance. If oyu go to small you're basically under water, but there's a point where the quality is very good through headphones and it cuts size by over 50%. I have 10 songs I big 2 Meg movie clip, 1 1270 movie clip and 2 short 50 K I still have memory left and I have Opera File manager handy day and expense e.t.c

I can't wait until I get my hands on 128 M though 😃

Hi y'all i got about 10 Mp3 on my fone, I use DietMP3 program from the name u should know what to do, u can download it from www.download.com .

Plus i usually split the MP3 between the the internal mem 'n' the MS duo.
And i still got free space approx. 5MB on the internal and 2MB on the MS
duo.

I use Razorsomething(I'm not at home, can't remember) to reencode using lame, you have the option to reencode directly to very very small bitrate, I think it's better than MP4.

The qality of compression relies a lot on bitrate/size and the formats a good for different things.. check r3mix.org for tools and more info.
Some general idas.

bitrate 2-64 (stereo) around 1.5Mb/song
*Use WMA or mp3Pro
bitrate 32-64 (mono)
*Use (vbr) Mp3 (lame encoder egine)
bitrate 64-128 (stereo) around 2+Mb song
*use mp3 or vorbis(ogg) once its supported by p800
Bitrate 128+
*mp3 or ogg

Both WMA and mp3 pro introduces some horrible artifacts, BUT they sound better then mp3 at 64kbit STEREO.
However a Mono 64kb mp3 sounds better then a mono 64kb wma imo, its about the same as 128kb stereo (64kb/channel)

As with all subjective quality there's no absolute truth... with crap headphones on your p800 you can prol compress a 32kb mp3 and it will still sound ok..

Ive managed to encoded some mp3's at 64Kbs using Music match, Ive managed to fit about 8 tracks on my phone and memory stick. which aint too bad, if i go any lower say 40kbs then the quality is poor.

I also use DietMp3 to cut down the size from 192/128kbps to 96kbps which reduces the size to 50-75% without losing any significant quality.

I have on my mem stick 20 Mp3's, the full version of EDoom(13-14MB), 4 music videos, 2 *cough* porn clips *cough*, Opera, about 60 pictures, some midi and wav files and a few smaller programs. Oh, I have the 128MB DUO btw... 😉

Yeah, yeah, yeah, but I have a dedicated Sigma card for MP3/MP4 multi-chanel encoding/decoding. Means I can pack stuff down to, ooh, terribly small and not lose too much quality.

You ever see "Databeat" running music in a bar -- that was one of mine.
Got one at home to encode up "today's mix" for the phone on a daily basis. All I need to do now is figure out an Outlook macro to move it to the phone as part of the sync process.
Guys,

Just do like me, get a 128 Duo. The World is not enough.

I would love to have it, if I could find it anywhere :-?
