Could do with a tidyup

8 replies · 24 views · Started 10 September 2009

I have just deleted about 100 odd posts of spam, and banned about 50 odd users.

Can people PLEASE ban anyone who posts spam? Half of what I deleted was by spammers who had posts deleted by other mods but not banned.

Also, the forum could do with a few sections deleting.

Namely:

S60 software

S60 multimedia

S60 themes

Older phones and archived forums

The entire series 80

All of UIQ

Series 90

Miscellaneous

Non Symbian phones

Feedback and announcments

Development

Community waffle (this is especially a spam magnet)

Introductions

Reviews

And some of the ones in news comments.

Theres far too many for moderators to look after, and in truth I find myself spending time over at nokiausers.net as the layout is much more friendly. A good tidyup would do wonders I think.

Theres a few moderators down as the list goes, but I dont know how many are active??

When you see a spam post (not via Akismet) what do you do??

Delete from the forum and ban the poster?

I see you dont permanently delete tho?

Hardly any I think.

I delete post and poster. I simply mark the post and go to 'delete as spam'. After that you get the option to ban and remove all posts by that user. I always permaban.

Only thing I don't do is hard delete the posts (i.e. they are still visible to mods).

yeah, thats the same way I go about mostly, although just not there were over 150 in akismet and you cant ban the user from the akismet links...

so you need to go to each post (if they are made by seperate posters)

COuld be a long night.. 😉

Just deleted about 10 more. It's getting very boring, this forum is such a spam magnet that I no longer give any reason for post deletion or banning. Theres no point anyway, if it's spammers.

Ok, it's getting stupid now. There's simply so much spam (mainly video converters) I don't think I'm going to bother anymore. Something needs to be done.

Just deleted over 15 posts and banned at least 15 users. There seems little point doing it anymore so I shall not be spending any more of my time deleting it, or responding to post reports.

Looking into this now. Sorry been on holiday and then missed the thread when catching up, and then out of the office the last few days. On the list of forums - agree pruning needed.

Not sure why the spam filters have started letting stuff through. I guess it turns into an arms race - very frustrating. Gah.

BTW you should be able to turn off the email option for post reports. Its in the user settings I think.

Thanks kontrabrand and bartmanekul for you patience and spam quashing this far. I guess the forum is in need of an overhaul in general.
