Hi,

I am curious as to why, on ovi maps, my phone seems to be always downloading over my 3.5g connection...

I know the app is only about 1mb, so obviously the maps are not pre loaded but is there a way to download the maps so that it is not always downloading over my 3.5g connection.

Also, with Google Maps, i presume the same applies (i haven't installed it yet). Is there a way to download the maps for this also...

thanks in advance

There is an application for the PC (and a Beta for Mac) called Nokia map loader. I think you can find a link on the OVI maps Page. There is no possibility to pre-download maps for Google maps.

Ok thanks...

Ovi map - cool, thanks

Nokia Maps - so does this mean that it will eat your bandwidth each time you use it... once you have visited and used a map of a certain area, is that map saved or is the cache wiped each time you use

thanks again for you reply

Ovi Maps is the new name for Nokia Maps. Upgrade the version on your phone and use Map Loader to choose and download your maps and voices.

Apologies... i posted my last post incorrectly... it was supposed to say:

Google maps does cache - but it caches to C:\ so will eat loads of precious memory...

[homer voice]Mmmm.... precious memory[/homer voice]

I've not installed it on my latest N97 for that very reason...

Bye bye google maps...

Sorry for going off topic here but why the hell would some one design a phone and only allow:

- less than 1% of it's storage capacity to the C drive
- 99% to the Storage (E) drive

(i really hope there is a good reason / answer for this)

thanks again for the replies guys
