Anyone know how the P800 would know that it's in a car so the back light remains on ???.
Do you need to have a certain holder ?? or cable ??

With the original CarKit HCE-20 and the matching Cable HCC-20 it should work.
AFAIK the phone knows that there is a _headset_ connected when two contacts of the connector are by-passed. Perhaps there is something similar with the CarKit...
Yep, I have the phone and the carkit (HCE-20 + HCC-20 + HCH-32). The phone recognizes when it is connected to the carkit. You can select (on the phone) if the display remains lit al the time or that it switches off automatically: Control panel -> Display -> Light (car)
many thanks.
I have just noticed that my charging lead is not working
Hmm, I have a BT-Handsfree CarKit so I have no HCC-20. Does anybody know the pins to by-pass to make the P800 switch to Car-Mode?
I would be interested in the pin config too
i actualy picked up a wireless phone adapter for the car from radioshack, haven't tried it yet. But it comes with a universal phone holder, one side of it a tiny oval metalic piece sticks to the back of the p800 and magneticaly holds to the other side. it is amazing how srtrong the hold his, + is barely noticable, also you know when you set your phone down on a table or what not and you never know wich side to set it on , well i always choose the side w/ the camera facing down, and the little batterie compartement ejection tab always makes a scratchy noise when moved and always freaks me out, now its leveled when sitting down, way cool, just barely to not touch the table.
Otherwise i have had it on all day on the magnetic part wich would be on dash and no problems with magnet. let see how sound is now. Anyway here is the link.

and this
oops 1 more
Well i'll take the risk, i can always change the batterie, desides i checked it out for any signs of trouble so far so good!
But watabout the phone? The strong a magnet would not only affect the battery but may also affect the phone. I also thought bout getting one of those on my nokia and t68i days but never pushed through. I read lots of forums about it but noody could ever answer if it would affect the pone or now. As for me im not willing to risk a $700 piece of device.
Tell me how it goes.
Hi there dont panic if you have a magnetic holder specifically designed for mobies then it should not affect the phone at all. It is a special bi-polar magnet. C u around
