Helloo
Reading on this and other forums it seems that many people think that the reason for the delays in V12 update is due more to the phone operator than to Nokia.
I have a sim free phone so i'm really puzzled about this thinking.:con? I mean i can understand if your phone is branded, but what about if it's not :con?
My product code is 0585162 UK CV B - i understand that the CV means "country variant", can anyone tell me what this means please
thanks
I would like to know the answer to your question too angiepea.
I don't remember coming across "CV" on the N80, N80IE, N95 or N95 8GB. It was always, for UK, either the Euro1 or the operator variants (Vodafone, T-Mobile, Orange, etc.)
It seems that quite a few countries such as Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany, Indonesia, Netherlands, Norway, Philippines, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand and Vietnam now have "CV" codes.
I'm wondering if these "CV" codes contain minor firmware alterations to comply with local laws or requirements. For instance, I have heard that certain N97 models have had wifi disabled for various markets.
Does anyone have the definitive answer to this perplexing question please. :dontknow:
I don't have a definitive answer, but the definitive solution is to change the product code to the EURO 1 variant 😊
..and where do find my product code?
Looked everywhere. Well, really, I only looked in setttings - phone - phone management - device updates.
Just out of curiosity really. I also bought a sim free, as I didn't want to be tied to an operator's firmware updates, so was looking forward to the FW as soon as they're out.

The product code can be found on the white sticker underneath the battery.

LOL! 😉
I can only imagine that the country variants are, as you posited earlier, down to localisation of the handsets to comply with more specific regulations and variations which are not unique to network operators.

I'd actually be interested to know what the QW stands for in 0570817: RM-505_EMEA_EURO_QW1 Black
My product code is 0576500 - no country code, no other numbers / letters.
According to the list of product codes ( http://www.nokiausers.net/forum/nokia-n97/27726-n97-product-codes.html , this is my product:
0576500: RM-505_MENA_KSA black
KSA = Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
But what does MENA denote?

Apparently even SIM free 'UK' phones have slightly customised firmware. Some features might not be applicable in all markets (for example the FM transmitter functionality is not legal in some countries - it is in the UK), or there may be additional features added (like iPlayer).
I have a CV product code and also bought a UK SIM free phone in the forlorn hope of getting firmware updates as soon as poss. As it stands, Nokia UK need to create / test their own variant of each new firmware release before it is made available for UK product codes.
I couldn't handle long waits for updates, so changed my product code to Euro 1 using JAF tools.

Think you're right celios.
When I debranded my phone to Euro, from Vodafone, I noticed that the BBC iPlayer was not included in the new firmware and I had to download it from the BBC site. So I guess that there are sub variants of the regional product codes to take into account the various variables that you suggest.
This is why the Euro product codes have had v12 and the UK CV one hasn't so far. I wonder if this means that the operator firmware phones will have to wait even longer for updates as there seems to be a new pecking order.
Handsets for the Chinese mainland are not allowed to have Wi Fi physically present in the unit, if you look on ebay for example you will should find N95s for sale that are marked as Chinese or some even say they are a copy intended for the Chinese market.
I speculate the new Palm Pixi may be destined for this market.
Queep Waiting I think
Was hoping for FW today, ah well, hopefully UK unbranded will go from V11 to V20 when V20 is launched for the rest of Europe
does changing the product code invalidate your warranty?
