i've ask my family to buy Nokia n 97 from syria, while i live in cyprus, how ever i got the phone with a card inside the box says:

this nokia device has been specially designed and manufactured for this market.the satandard GPS features have been disabled in accordance with market regulations.

im using this mobile for the second day,i can't send it back to syria and i don't know what to do,i can't connect with the gps system in cyprus .help me to find a way to enable the GPS system in my phone.

is there a way to enable it through a software or a flash, please help me

THanks a lot

You may have to change the product code on your device to a non Syrian (or Middle Eastern) code and update the firmware. Search the forum for "Debranding", "Product Codes" and "Updating Firmware" for more information.

Well. you have one of two situations:

1. Your phone has no GPS hardware which means you will NEVER get it.

or

2. Your phone has GPS hardware but the product code you mention is linked to a version of the firmware that ignores the GPS hardware.

I'm betting it's option 2 as I can't see Nokia producing hardware variants, but I could be wrong.

If it's the case that your phone needs an unrestricted version of the firmware, you will need to find a product code which more closely suits your needs and change your phone to that code using an application like Nemesis Service Suite (NSS). Once you have done this, you can hook your phone up to your computer and run Nokia Software Updater (NSU) and this should find the corresponding firmware for your new product code and hopefully provide you with a functioning GPS.
