now with a new version, with 3 different theme settings, a little raised border and different timings for the homescreen cycling.
Aggregating news from loads of different symbian news sources (at least 8) since 2009 😉
It's a nice aggregation you have there. My one comment is that it would be polite (and helpful) to add the source of each new story as well.
It's a good point, well made and I'll be adding it to my next version...
I've actually got feeds now for football, news, symbian news and uk traffic all tagged and running in the same database and a fairly sweet mechanism to deal with cache and updates.
I'm thinking of knocking something together that lets you pick your own feeds.
But it'll need a login and password to work properly...
There we go. new version, with source credit...

Excellent. Now, if only Nokia fixed things as quickly... 😉
what's the ram usage on this widget, dave?
Is Nokiausers featured in this Dave? Will check it out 😉
No clue how much RAM it uses when running. The install is around 30k.
And yes, NokiaUsers is on there Micky...
Good lad Dave😉 Looks great.!
Cheers.

@Everyone - If I've missed anything symbian related you check often, let me know and I'll add it to my polling list...
Oh. and you can now turn the various feeds on and off...
Great job Dave, really liking this, and love how it shows there is an update available.
Keep up the great work mate, love it.!
Right. Fairly major new version.
I've changed the main view to have next and previous buttons for scrolling through news items rather than using the up and down scrolling throuh 25 stories which was getting tedious.
I've moved all the options to the proper options menu, with options for selecting news sources, controlling homescreen timing, and picking themes. And added an "About" section.
And mucked about with the header a bit.
Thoughts appreciated...

Great work dave, just a note. I noticed when trying to update to the last update before this one, i had errors trying to update due to the widget being in use. This was resolved by removing the widget from the homescreen, and then accessing the update from my widget folder.
Same with this update. Will remove it from homescreen, and update it again, then re-add it to the homescreen, and let you know what I think of this version 😊
Yeah, the update won't work if it's on the homescreen because it's running.
Don't know of a way around that either. It's a system level thing. It should do the "it's running. close it?" thing.
System should deal with that kind of thing really...
Looks great. Maybe add an option to "Select All" in the menu when asked which news feeds to add?
I'm keeping with a "none selected = all feeds" thing in case I add feeds to the database. So basically, if you've got no feeds selected you get all of them.
Also, if you click on the feed name it'll also check/uncheck the checkbox
Edit: But I've added a reset feeds button to go back to using all feeds...
Right. New version. Now with twitter support.
If you click "options>twitter options" and enter your twitter username and password you can tweet any link from the newsfeed, with a comment straight to your twitter feed...
swanky eh? 😉
Any issues, give me a shout please...
Great work once again dave, your widget just keeps getting better, and I can see this getting mainstream soon.
Is it possible for you to maybe make the buttons bigger, and lower down on the screen? The buttons that shift left or right to the next or previous articles.
Also, when tweeting an article, would it be possible to automatically add the title of the article, then leave the option to add a comment, adding the url on the end of the tweet rather than the beginning.?
Keep up the great job, I will be writing up an article about your widget on Nokiausers 😉 But will wait a little while until you can maybe make the UI look a little better. It looks great don't get me wrong, and appreciate your hard work, but if at all possible, if you could make the UI more simplistic, with bigger buttons, etc, your onto a winner.!
I'm not happy with the UI myself yet. Still a little to "prototypey" for my liking, so yes, better buttons etc coming soon.
As far as tweeting goes, I'm concerned about the 140 char limit, so with tiny URL & Title & Comment I want to make sure url isn't truncated - so the easy way is to drop it at the start, but I'll take a look. Also, I want room for the #dcs60 app hash tag (purely for my own vanity).
Cheers for the feedback - expect more updates later...
Another minor update.
- Tidied the UI a little.
- Now tweets in the format "[comment] [url] via DCS60"
- Adds link title to comment box automatically (but can be edited)
Comments. as ever, appreciated...
