Tell Symbian What You Want!

Symbian is running a Application Survey and it's being hosted by My-Symbian. Here's your chance to tell the people who make decisions (and programs) exactly what you use and what you want!

wait a sec! will the results be published to the Internet, or jest kept internally "among friends" ? if the results will not be published in internet then filling the Survey is pointless because it will serve only very limited number of people....

:usa

i would love a true replacement for the EPOC 5 Jotter app & a tv remote controller that could use the outside buttons of the communicator...and the outside display? that would be sweet!

Don't want to start any nasty rumors - *but* - is there any link between this survey and the yet to be announced Symbian Developer Competition results (and supposed to have been announced at end of Jan) - such as is this being used to determine the results (?...)

I would like to hope not - however it seems strangely coincidental - and most unusual that Symbian have entered into such a task when they are so overdue with their results of the comp!!

(1) As far as I'm aware, the results are being made to all developers and interested parties - ie the people who make programs.

(2) The survey and the Developer Contest are being run by seperate departments. Also some of the judges on the Developer Contest are also from external companies, and it wouldn't surprise me if there is an independent judge from the 'net community in there as well.

(3) There are various internal reasons for the Dev Compo being delayed. There is nothing fishy going on there (although I can see why certain paranoid people wanting to put the boot in would think that 😉 ).

Once there's a fairly decent sample size built up, we'll set about processing the results. We'll publish the most popular app results first...

No time-frame for this...but it will happen at some point!

Phil

...and it's completely independent of the Developer Contest!

And for the really paranoid, the above 'guest' is Phil from Symbian, who at some point is going to realise registering his name is a good idea 😊

I prefer the mysterious air 'guest' has to it 😃 😃 Shall register properly for future (yes, excluding this one) posts...

Hi,

well as per my message I am not trying to start any rumours - nor am I putting the boot in to Symbian (who have created some stunning alternatives to Microsoft/Palm technologies of which I am most greatful).

The concern was simply that the 'survey' would not be a fair way to judge the dev competition - and while an independant net judge is more than welcome I would like to think they judged all 130 applications on offer to come up with their result.

Again - without putting down the survey - which in its own rights has many excellent merits (such as finding out what applications are most desired and most well used amongst the community) - the most popular app category is really judging the best of the well publicised applications.

For example - IF you haven't made a trial available and don't have the funds to heavily promote your programs - like stacker or spruce then you are pretty much out of the running - as noone knows about your app in the first place to vote for it.

anyhow you have put my mind to rest on this (hopefully) - however now that we have a Symbian rep here (phil?) - can you please shed a little more light on what is exactly going on with the comp (the only information has been a quick post in the feb dev newsletter) - as a mass mail out of explanation to all entrants would be a really good (and appropriate) gesture.

Don't forget if there were 130 applications - it means a heck of a lot of people have gone to a whole stack of effort to make this possible.

Additionally, I would imagine a lot of these people 'rose' to the challenge and created applications either ahead of schedule or specially for the competition - and where the author was not a company already producing the product - this would have required significant extra effort on top of what they were already doing in their lives.
