The Ovi Store client now available for N86, E52 and E55

You may have noticed that the newer S60 3rd Edition FP2 phones, the ones that ship with the new v7 version of Nokia's Webkit-based Web browser, had been left high and dry regarding a client for Nokia's Ovi Store - trying to install the existing client resulted in an unusably slow experience. There's a new, Web v7-compatible client now though, v1.05(313) - you can get it from going to store.ovi.com in Web on your device - it's a 620k download. In use, the new Ovi Store client is faster than I've seen on any previous device. Anyway, that's one less thing for the Ovi Store people to fix up! (via Ovi Applications)

you mean to tell me that all this time there was no ovi store client for the n86? if true, doesnt anyone see the lunacy with the way nokia deals with software thru its entire "s60 symbian" platform? maybe i dont know something, but they need to learn how to release an app for the entire platform at once. same with firmware updates. no more regional crap.

The problem is that there is not one S60 plateform but there three:
- 3rd edition Feature pack 1
- 3rd edition Feature pack 2
- 5th edition

Even these OS are not all the same. There is 3rd FP2 with the older browser, 3rd FP2 with version 7.1 of the browser, 5th ed with browser 7.0 and 5th ed with version 7.1. So it must be hard to do an application for all these systems at once, considering that the ovi store application basically just shows you the mobile web pages of the store, but in an application and not the web browser.

Ok fine, then they should release 3 versions, but this is not the case. Why is it that they cherry pick devices. They have released a certain app for lets say the n97 but not the 5800. Yet both run s60v5. This issue must be addressed as its been happening way too long already. Its even worse with firmware updates when one region gets an update, yet the same exact hardware model in another region is not updated for months afterwards. But both regions are identical models.

Nokia, tsk tsk tsk

they need more apps. the iphone app store has way more support.

come on OVi do something
