Disabling widget auto connect

Is there a way to stop the widgets on the home screen automatically connecting when they want?

I have only had the phone a couple of days so am still learning, but I have found on many occasions that my phone has connected to vodafone because a widget thought it had to.

Luckily, I have unlimited Internet, but is it really unlimited, and if it's not then I have to stop these widgets connecting without my permission.

If I am at home, then it will connect to my home network, but I am worried about when I am not at home and it will then connect to the vodafone network. Will I end up with a big bill even though I have unlimited internet?

I wouldn't worry about it, you have unlimited internet and the widgets don't use that much data.

Also I think vodafone get in touch and warn you first if they think your abusing the unlimited data.

If you want to change the connection settings then open your web settings and look in web feeds "acc point for auto update" I'm pretty sure they are the connection settings for the widgets. You also have the choice to turn off update when roaming.

at your n97 homescreen, bottom left, Options -> Content to Offline Mode

this will stop the widgets in your homescreen from connecting and updating

I'll second what has already been said. The widgets will only use a small amount of data so you won't get into trouble.

But, you're right to question the unlimited nature of your plan because it won't really be unlimited. My Tmobile plan is unlimited but is really 1GB. You'll be hard pressed to hit that though and yep, I'd expect the network to warn you before charging.

Be very careful when going abroad though, that could get nasty if you're not careful!

Regarding home network, I could never get the widgets to use it automatically when at home so in the end removed them. Now I just open the app when I want an update and the phone correctly uses wifi when I'm at home.
