Rafe reports back from the recent (September 2009) Ovi Developer Day in London, with details on all the main speakers and the issues raised (and responded to). Rafe notes in particular (and welcomes) a sea change in Forum Nokia's attitude to developers. There are also a number of interesting facts and stats about the Nokia Ovi Store.

Regarding "Approving 500 content items a week": Was there any talk on how many of them are applications/games, and how many are wallpapers, videos & such?

No there wasn't, but I'm're looking at doing my own analysis of this.

To be honest I think that's a generous number (maybe if you include different phone variants for some games etc.).

Watch this space.

Nokia N97 marketing? What? The blatant apple rip off app commercial that even goes as far as stealing the line "there's an app for everything"!

Nokia should be ashmed of themselves IMO, and I hope they don't start spouting numbers - how qbout 2 billion apps downloaded for a number Nokia? And that from a userbase that's tiny compared to your "huge" lead *rolls eyes*

Yes the blatant rip off ad is one of them... But did you see Apple made a phone.... talk about ripping of Nokia! It makes calls and everything. They'll be adding MMS functionality next.

Joking aside though, the ad campaign is a lot wider than that one ad.

Nobody is going to be ashamed. Nothing at all wrong with aggressive marketing. All is fair in love and war.

To quote Apple:
"Steps removed and sequences shortened. Network speeds may vary."

Apple approved an edited tv commercial that used camera trickery to make the iPhone appear better than the reality. Scum.
