v12 updated again on Ovi!

29 replies · 8,780 views · Started 30 September 2009

OK... the facts first.

1. I debranded my Vodafone N97 a few weeks back from code 0585262: N97 VF UK B and changed it, using NSS, to 0570817: RM-505_EMEA_EURO_QW1 Black.

2. I then updated the firmware using NSU to v12.0.024 with no problems.

3. On my Vista laptop I am running both Nokia PC Suite, v7.1.30.9 with NSU v1.7.3., and I have the Ovi Suite beta v0.4.154.0 with Nokia Ovi Suite Software Updater 2009.34.0.60056.

Today I connected my handset to Ovi and was offered an update from v12.0.024 to v12.0.026. (see screenshot OviNSU)

Baffled by this I then connected to Nokia PC Suite and started the NSU only to be told that I had the latest software, v12.0.024. (see screenshot NSU).

Now, as far as I am aware, v12.0.026 is for certain product codes.

My questions are:-

1. Is this v12.0.026 a minor update for product code 0570817: RM-505_EMEA_EURO_QW1 Black?

2. If so, why does it not show on the Nokia PC Suite Updater and only on Ovi?

How odd. Maybe this is a patch for the 'bad' v12 that Vodafone butchered. Also the OP of this thread got the update via the NSU which is part of Ovi, but was not offered the update via the regular PC suite NSU.

:con?

I installed v12.0.024 a few weeks back before the "buggy" version the other day.

Right... I took the plunge and did the update (see screenshot Installing) and it went through all the motions, white screen, Nokia Test Mode, restarting, etc. and at the end of it I've still got v12.0.024!

Go figure...

Weirder and weirder!

Now, when I connect the phone to Nokia PC Suite (not Ovi Suite) I get a little balloon pop up on the computer task bar telling me that there is new software available for the N97 and to click on it to install it.

When I do this the NSU opens and tells me..... v12.0.024... No updates available... do I want to reinstall?

WTF is going on?

Have I lost the plot or has Nokia? :banghead:

Based on my experience of your posts here and my dealings with Nokia. I would say you are 100% fine and Nokia have lost the plot... 😃

No updates for me, OTA or NSU, no reinstall option either.

I wasn't aware that Nokia had ever even seen the plot!

OK... here's my guess... the V12.0.026 update only applies, as a fix, for the disastrous v12 update released to certain phones worldwide on the 22nd Sep. 09.

It would be interesting to know if anyone who updated to v12.0.024 about a month ago has received the v12.0.026 update (i.e. generic unbranded handsets)

I just used the online Nokia update checker:-

http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/download-software/device-software-update/can-i-update

and input my product code, 0570817, and am advised that v12.0.024 is the latest software version which seems to bear out my theory... I think. :con?

Funny you should say that....

it's exactly what the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy just whispered to me... :stupid:

for me there was no other update available except for the .26 one, from 11

That's the 2nd version of v12 that a lot of people reported problems with after installing.

I see you have a Malaysian Country Variant product code, which seems to be what the 22 Sep. release was aimed at for various countries. It would appear to be a slight variation on the generic code first released about a month ago, which I have.

I updated three days ago OTA and the only update showing was v12.0.026.
My product code is 0587240.

Strange because when I go on Nokia site it shows the latest firmware available for my handset is v12.0.024

Again, your product code is for a white UK Country Variant.

I updated my standard N97 on Vodafone today, OTA said there was an update and to connect it to my PC to NSU said it was up to date, I then downloaded the beta labs ovi suite and that updated it to v1.2.0.26 or whatever. Haven't noticed any difference on it mind.

Is this normal, for operator firmwares to come out before unbranded phones? For Vodaphone to do this, does it mean that their firmware isn't actually based on the standard UK one?

The v12.0.026 is just a Country Variant (CV) of the v12.0.024 which was released a month ago for the Euro phones.

Maximus434 wrote:I have a simfree UK N97 that is not showing any updates via OTA on the device? I'm still on v11...?

Me too, hence my point about vodapone.

I think I'm 354225? Does that look like the correct number? It's writen behind the battery.

I would have expected it to start 05XXXXX and consist of 7 digits.

I've just checked using NSU and it turns out I already had v12.0.026. I downloaded it in the brief instance it was available OTA the other week.
