Yes, I know, probably the wrong forum in which to post this, but it is teniously linked.
Anyone else getting trouble with Nokia Software Updater download? My flatmate is trying to upgrade the FW in his E90 Communicator, but everytime he tries to d/l the Nokia Software, it refuses to install. This results in him being unable to upgrade.
Now, I use a Mac - so no PC Suite for me. BUT I do have a Windoze laptop, on which I have upgraded the N97, from v10 to v11 then v11 to v12, with no problems. So, I brought along my laptop for him to use and upgrade his E90.
Yes, you've guessed it. Nokia's download now refuses to install on my laptop, which also means when v20 finally comes out on for the N97, I'll be stuffed, unless Nokia get their act together and offer it OTA.
Coincidentally, all the laptops we have tried to d/l the software updater onto are HP's.
BUT, previous version of the sw updater ran perfectly on my machine, for some reason, the latest one, is just roobish. I'm really starting to dislike Nokia.
What error do you get when you try to install it?
Could always try installing the new beta Ovi Suite that comes with software updater. See here:-
http://betalabs.nokia.com/betas/view/nokia-ovi-suite-20
Can't remember exactly the error message, but something akin to cannot complete the installation. It downloads fine ( 24.5 mb ) but then won't install.
Re the Ovi updater, will have a look at that but do you need to have PC Suite / Software Updater already installed on the PC?
Thanks for the help.
Tried replying to his earlier in the day, but got 'caught' by the Spam filter - again.
Error Message: It was pretty non descript - typical Nokia. Something like 'Software installer has encountered a problem', fails to install, then there only the option to quit. Useless really.
Jut downloading the Beta Ovi Suite now
( BTW - exactly HOW is it pronounced?
Beta as in beater
Beta as in better
Ovi as in ohvee
Ovi as in errrm, ovvi )
Not that I'm pedantic or anything , you understand....
It's pronounced "ovvi beater". Beta is always pronounced that way, but I've always pronounced Ovi as "ohvee".
Well, just tried downloading Ovvi Beater and that also fails to install!
Similar error message, installer has encountered a problem n cannot continue, so back to the drawing board!
Must be something connected to HP laptops, every download so far on a HP has failed to install with the same message? Will have to turn to the last resort...installing Windoze XP on my Mac - what a depressing thought! 😞
I have both Nokia PC Suite and Ovi Suite beta running on my HP G70 laptop, running Vista premium, with no problems. Admittedly I do have User accounts turned off on it.
Try this...
Go to Control Panel > Uninstall a program and then uninstall PC Suite, Ovi Suite, Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver, PC Connectivity Solution.
Now download and install Nokia PC Suite cleaner and run it.

Reboot you laptop.
Make sure User Accounts and your antivirus are turned off (you can turn both on after setup) and download and install PC Suite and it's add-ons and then run them to ensure that they are up-to-date.
Hopefully this will solve your problem.
Did you ever have NPS installed previously? I know i've had problems and had to use Nokias own removal tool to make sure it all got wiped rather then just an uninstall.
I seem to pronounce it all wrong,
Nokia Ovi beta, Knock-ia Ohvee Bate-ah
Rather then Noke-ia Ovvi Beater..

Thanks Zyyb!
Have amended my posting thanks. My excuse is it's Monday. :con?
Sheesh - more downlaoding to do. Normally in the UK, it ain't a problem, at home the norm is around 8mb broadband speed, so downlaoding files of 200mb's aint too much hassle.
At the moment, I'm connecting via Joikuspot and using the phone's internet connection, so connection speeds if I'm lucky are on average around 30kb ps.
BUT - apart from the moaning, much appreciate the help and suggestions, and as usual, this forum proves to be an excellent resource.
While uninstalling other stuffs have you came across anything like Nokia flashing connectivity cable driver, if yes, along with other nokia's, uninstall this also, and then try?

What O/S have you on the laptop(s)?
If it's Vista or Win7, save the installation file to the desktop, then right-click the file and select Run as Administrator.
I too have similar problems to you with installing Nokia Suite onto my laptop😡
My only option has been to install new firmware OTA.
Will v20 not be released OTA??!😮
Try turning off antivirus and firewall during installation, have had wierdness with both in the past and nokia software.
Also if you're using vista try running the installation as an administrator.
Well folks, it all looks rosy at the moment - and guess why?
All down to the sheer versatiity of my Macbook Pro.
Have installed Win XP ( it now runs both Mac OS and Win XP, dual boot ) , and then installed Ovi Suite , the cd which came with the phone, and then downloaded the newest version of Software Updater, which downloaded and installed with no problems. Now I'm all set for Sat 10th when supposedly the new FW comes out!
THe more I use the Macbook Pro, the more impressed I am with it. Who needs a hash key after all?
