As long as you got your cert and key then freesigner is a good app that installs and works great on the n97.
See http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/85742/&highlight=FREESIGNER
English cert/key source info posted on 01-09-2009, 06:11 PM (part way down 1st page of thread).
Freesigner can sign apps on your phone...
Looking at it now.

I finally did the self-signing thing after a LOT of confusion.
Turns out the key that I got was for a PC-based product (signtools 2.2) and not the N97-based freesign.
After I figured this out, I was able to sign applications on my PC and save room on the N97 for more important software.
Besides I save back-ups on my PC of all programs that are installed on my N97 so that the next time I have to do a hard-reset, I'll have them all in one place.
Do u have a link to signtools 2.2 perchance? The link I found was reported as unsafe and potentially malware...
Found this:- http://www.mobidhoom.com/mobile-application-sign-certificates-online-latest-signtools-22/
I have downloaded it and it seems safe.

This is the safe version.
