BBC Watchdog Just Called Me

20 replies · 7,696 views · Started 05 October 2009

I can't believe it, The BBC just called me. Unfortunately I couldn't answer the phone because the bloody slide to unlock auto rotated.! Anyway Jon Hunt has left an answerphone message to call him back....
I'm gonna need some links to forward regarding the lens scratching, pettition link, photos and possibly videos.
Happy days we may get somewhere with this.. 😃

Send him the link to the funny youtube vid too! If they air the story it would be a shame if they didn't mention all the software issues as well as the lense.

I can't wait for Robinson to get her hand on this story!

More links for you... POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

I too have recently had some correspondence with them. My understanding is that they want to focus on the GPS issue (I guess they could expand it to cover other issues).

If anyone hasn't already contacted Watchdog about this, now would be a good time to:

To be honest, I can't remember exactly what I said, but I believe I mentioned the GPS and the lens scratching.

This is going to be a bit of a non-story isnt it? Yes, some people (including myself) have had issues with GPS & Lens scratching (my software runs fine, i adore my phone at the minute) but Nokia are allowing repairs under warranty for them. Not really much more to do is there?

Yes, they're offering repairs under warranty, but the repairs are not fixing the problems, at least not for me anyway.

I sent my phone off with a note saying to fix the camera lens, the GPS and the back cover.

I got it back and they'd kind of fixed the GPS but that was it. The GPS still isn't great, it doesn't drop the signal as much, but it still does, and when it doesn't, it's at least 75m off where i actually am. Compared to my N95 and N96, the GPS is crap.

I've just spoke to them and they are checking about GPS problems and Lens Scratching, only trouble is I may have dropped a bollock by posting on Nokia Discussion Board and can't remove it ...DOH

EDIT:

Woops!!! Nokia UK now know that the BBC are on the case, they shouldn't have took so long contacting me! Oh well I hope Nokia get what they deserve, come on Anne! 😃

this is excellent news

everyone else with problems please contact watchdog as well the more people that do the more evidence they can build up

I tried to use my GPS yesterday to come back from a car cealership (forgot my other GPS that I had to buy due to the fact that N97's GPS does not work). To summarize it - the trip home took almost 90 minutes (instead of 15) because the GPS has taken all around town and in places I would never go by myself...It lost signal every 2 minutes and my software would just say "In 0.2 miles - turn right" 2 seconds later "in 0.4 miles turn left" and then suddenly "make a legal U-turn where possible". WTF?!??!!?

I wasn't happy.

I am informed that Nokia are fixing this problem by adding a third choice to Drive and Walk. It's called Scenic. This is so they can blame users for selecting the wrong choice. 😃

your thread has been linked over at nokia users to try and get more people to get in touch with watchdog uk 😊

cheers mate

we should post on nokia dicussion forum to get more reports to watchdog as well

but i have a feeling that it will get censorsed by nokia, if that's the case, report to watchdog they're trying suppress the issue :icon14:

Been there done that! I was asked to remove my thread by the BBC and it's beyond my control now.

I've just got a replacement N97 back from Nokia Care Point, I was hoping they'd fix mine, but they just replace it. This is now my 4th handset due mostly to the GPS issues. I'll check to see if the GPS is fixed and get in contact with Watchdog.

one of the guys who works on watchdog uses a N97!

they do a section called rougue traders, and the guy with an accent was 'checking' something on his mobile and it was a N97, i'm sure of it!

anyone else notice this?

they don't need to ring anyone, ask him, he's got one

😃

If the gps worked, then it wasn't mine.

I was surprised to see Liphook on the show tonight being that I work there (the O2 bit)! Loads of people at work were hit by that outage.
