Nokia's UK Flagship store on Oxford Street has announced on Twitter that they'll be selling the Nokia N97 Mini in store from Friday October 23rd... just in time for everyone arriving in the capital for the Symbian Exchnage and Exposition on the 27th and 28th!

Read on in the full article.

The rollout? Are you yet another fool that has fallen for that made up info thats doing the rounds on the forums?

It's total BS, and anyone with half a brain should see that!

I am quite bored now with my 5800 now but there isn't really anything out there that suits me better so I've haven't been able to replace it. Money is no object so I am desperate for the N97 to step up and be my new phone. I will be following early reviews closely.

What is the actual point in the N97 Mini? It's not much smaller, it's still resistive touch screen, it still falls over when you try and touch the screen when laid as a keyboard, and by all accounts there's no direction keys at all any more?

After playing with both on the previous Saturday, my money is on the N900. I like the N97 Mini. The form factor is nice and it feels great in the hand, but it is still an N97 (sort of) and no matter how much Steve tries to make it into a decent phone, the N97 is about 2 1 or 2 software upgrades away from being fit for consumers. Especially considering the long awaited software was supposed to be production while the current software is really beta. With all things being equal and the N97 never having seeing the light of day, the N97 Mini would be a decent buy, but the N900 will trump them. This is based on my 15 mins of playtime with the devices.

Did you know N900 can't send mms?
Also, I have a big problem that almost everything needs to be operated in landscape. Even unlock key is in a wierd place. I have a hunch only geeks will have a fun with N900. Granted, specs are great but it looks like i-tablet, not a full featured phone. Wait... it is i-tablet.

Hey krisq,

I know, I know, but for the most part in the last 3 years, I have sent 2 MMS. Really. I tried it with my iPhone and then forgot about it. As the N900 is more "tablet like" I can understand the landscape mode as this is where is was meant to be operated, however things can change between now and the final production software. The one I played with was uber-fast and slick. I am waiting for the Apple entry though before making a choice. Nokia better hope that more than geeks like this phone as this is probably the last big chance for Maemo to go mainstream.

The N97 was a classic illustration of how Nokia simply does not get it. I am not talking about the hardware, but the software, and ecosystem that is needed. Ovi is just a disaster, and not very transparent. All the cheerleading in the world will not make it better. Nokia has to decide to really make it a biz unit and resouce it properly. Look at MobileMe. Even after a rocky start, the service is solid, stable, and completely transparent. Nokia is no where near that level of performance.

And update from Flagship:

[UPDATE] N97 Mini launch date, is subject to change. Not as first stated. Apologies, we will keep you posted on dates.

<sigh>

Wouldn't you want a device that is ready to launch rather than a device that is launced and not ready? If so, go pick up an N97. It was not ready to launch from day one. Nokia knew this and many on this site know this but continue to make excuses for it. The fact that the N900 is taking its time and hopefully the N97 Mini means that Nokia is finally listening to customers, not reviewers and most of all Nokia has stopped listening to its own hype.

People bleat on about the N900. It will be too big and chunky for most to carry around and the battery will last less than a day. It's not a carry-everywhere device, it's a table top toy.

Might as well buy a netbook and hve a bigger screen, a choice of OS and a reasonable keyboard.
Or go the whole hog and get a laptop.

The N97 mini is quite a lot smaller, about the same size as a 5800. The N97 big was just too big and unwieldy, I find the mini a much better package.

For a number of reasons, a resistive screen is better than capacitive. I would not consider a phone with capacitive screen.

The direction keys were always considered pointless and superfluous. Getting rid of them allows the smaller phone.

I like the N97, but dislike its physical package. The mini is what the N97 should have been from the beginning.
