All these problems, lens scratching GPS etc.
What percentage have the problems, and if i got a "new" new one will it still have all these faults?
I'm not aftter sending it back and being phoneless, as i would probably go to a service center and take it out on someone! not good.
i can cope with buggy firmware that will be updated and hopefully mature like my beloved N95 has.
But hardware faults are a totally different thing.
Also as one of my major hobbies relies on an accurate GPS signal, then this HAS to work. Again, from reading and researching on the web, i still can't work out whether this is hardware/software.
The lens scratching i assume is cause my grit getting under the slider and then scratching it.
I really did want to get this phone over the other choices as even the Omnia HD has problems. And the N97 just looks so much better on paper than the N96 and N85
my 97 is a september baby, i did not, and have not experienced the camera scratching issues, neither have i encountered any gps issues either
As Steve points out in this item...
http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/news/item/10588_Getting_the_Service_Centre_low.php
... anything built post July '09 is likely to be an updated model with both the lens cover and GPS fix in place. So the chances of you buying a brand new N97 with a lens scratching issue or poor GPS reception is extremely low. And if you are indeed unfortunate enough to get one, Nokia has officially acknowledged the issue and will either replace or repair under warranty.
So buy with confidence! 😊
I bought my N97 about 7 weeks ago and I have a new one as I too have had no lens scratching issue and no GPS issue.
I must say that the whole affair has been handled poorly on both sides, with Nokia clearly not coming clean soon enough on admitting the existence of the issue and users doing all kinds of scary stuff to their handsets to overcome the issues, stuff sacary enough to invalidate the warranty they could've used to get these issues fixed F.O.C.
Roll on v20 on Sunday!!! ;o)
