AccuWeather - what is it for?

It doesn't show weather at any point - it ALWAYS just says "Loading". I never actually saw it say anything else and it takes up a lot of memory.

Yes, I do have data plan and I can browse the web and etc. I did adjust settings in the program and it found my city, but not the weather for it (and its a big city). My GPS does get a lock on for 10 seconds, so I am not sure why its not working (even after 4-5 hard resets).

Ah yes, Accuweather. Well it can work. I normally use it over WiFi and its normally fine then, but does sometimes get stuck.

If it does, use Options->Edit Content and remove it from the front page. Count to 10. Bring it back. This often works, especially if you've moved between connecting via Wifi and connecting via 3G.

On rare ocassions you have to turn the phone off completely and then reboot.

Sadly, when you move from Wifi to 3G (or other phone company provided connections) even though the phone itself will have beeped to let you know you've wondered outside your WiFi range - Accuweather won't notice and will continue to try and connect to a non-existent connection, eventually erroring out. There does not appear to be a way to tell it to use a different connection as there is with most other programs on the phone.

Neil

Thanks. Too bad I don't have a WiFi profile. Mine doesn't work no matter what - not even after a hard reset. It will not show anything but LOADING...

The first problem with the Accuweather widget is that the default setting is to use the GPS to locate where you are and then go out via the internet to get the weather for where you're at.

BUT...like most of us your GPS can't get a fix--indoors or out, so.....

You have to configure the application for a location.

This takes a little time and patience because if you press the wrong thing you have to go back through and start all over again.

Once you have a default location selected....then the real fun begins as the widget has to go out and read information over the internet and then post it to the display.

Once it is working, it seems to work fairly well though I can't figure out just when it pulls updates. Sometimes it is every 15 minutes, other times you have to force it to update.

I prefer to keep mine set on the Radar map view which takes even longer to update, but when it is working, others (especially iPhone users who default to The Weather Channel applet) are envious.

I've never really had a problem with Accuweather and 9 out of 10 times updates with the correct weather for me without delay.
But I know what you mean about the "loading" screen, I sometimes get a delay but I find clicking "Refresh" again speeds it up.

The only downside I see to this app is that it is unable to update automatically which is kinda annoying and pointless as a live widget.

My Accuweather widget seems to update automatically if it doesn't get stuck.

I've noticed that it seems to get stuck when doing heavy web browsing or loading large emails...it seems that the N97 then shuts down the other home screen widgets (Accuweather, Facebook and Messaging), but they don't automatically restart (except Messaging seems to restart on its own)--you have to open them and either login again (Facebook) or refresh (sometimes 2-3x times!) for Accuweather.

My Accuweather radar map, when it is working seems to refresh about every 15 minutes.

Strange... I downloaded an AccuWeather widget for my G2 to see what it was like and it does the exact same thing, and this is on Android... And when I had AccuWeather on my 5800XM it would just lock up and close itself down whenever I tried to put in my current location (which at the time was Palmdale, CA) or my current location here (London, UK). Not much help, I know, just saying, you're not alone on that one.

How do you set it to update automatically? There's no option for it?
Would be so much more useful if it updated by itself for me

How do you set it to update automatically?

I don't know...it just seems to do it.

Strange thing happened in the last day...my Accuweather started saying "Add location" on the home screen. I have Houston, TX set as my default (and only) location but since yesterday it started forgetting the default.

I wonder that since the Accuweather gets occasional ad feeds, whether there is some sort of remote control that also comes in with the ad feeds that makes it do different things?

Or maybe someone has hacked (or is hacking) the ad feed stream to see what they can make it do?
