GPS home-made fix!

10 replies · 4,496 views · Started 09 October 2009

I just read on the front page that Nokia now replaces GPS by adding shielding and etc to N97. That means the new firmware WILL NOT fix the GPS issue - it can't.

That also means I have to do all the manual micro work to get that thing to work. I remember there was a guide on how to extend or fix the antenna so that the reception is way better. Could someone link me to that?

No, it means you can take it to your nearest Nokia Care Point and they will fit a new shielded antenna, free of charge, under the warranty.

How do you convince them to change the antenna? I've been to two service centres. First one refused to help, second one just did a factory reset and said they had upgraded the firmware and confirmed everything working (when it wasn't).

Both refused to provide me a replacement charger.

They can't refuse you a repair if it's under warranty and Nokia have acknowledged the problem....

As suggested, send directly to Nokia.

As for the charger, I think you will find that it is not covered under the warranty. Sounds crazy, but I found this out when I had my N73 and had problems with that charger.

There is no Nokia Centers in USA, nowhere near me. Someone please post a link to that home GPS mod...

I cant afford being without a phone, even for a week while so I wont send it for repair and dont have a backup one. Could someone be nice and post that link instead of directing me to Nokia? Thanks!

it is on symbian freak.. From memory it is in the modding section.. I did it to mine, still playing around with it.. I normally get an accuracy between 50-90 most of the time, I don't seam to lose signal.. Seams ok.. I think thin wire will work better though.. Good luck, I would put mine in repair but I'm too scared to get a shit replacement haha

I know, right? Its better to fix what is broken yourself rather than trust Nokia... what does it say about the company?
