N-Gage games catalog exceeds bounds

At first I thought it was just me. But all week, trying to view the N-Gage 'All games' catalog in the on-device client has resulted in an error message 'Out of internal memory. Close some applications and try again (Error -4)'. Not terribly helpful, especially on an (e.g.) N96 with 80MB of free RAM and now verified on numerous other devices. What's clearly happened is that adding the latest game to the online catalog has broken some internal limit within the client ("How many games shall we allow for in our array? Pick a number..."😉, but it's a crying shame that such an error has been allowed to exist for so long, especially around the launch dates of three new titles.

Read on in the full article.

Its not the addition of the latest games which pushed the showroom of the cliff. The showroom has been down for me since the past few days, even before the games were released.

Sadly Nokia seem to have given up on the N-Gage division. It's even sadder that they've made such hash of the gaming potential they had when their devices had graphics acceleration.

"Letting things break and then trying to keep customers in the dark for long periods of time may not be the best strategy for customer satisfaction."

No, but it's the Nokia way 😉

i said that this was probably the case last night on my twitter feed (though i deleted the msg earlier this morning) 😞

the showroom was working fine at around 10:30pm GMT (UTC) on Wednesday 14th october, as i downloaded Mega Monsters, but sometime between then and 10:30am Thursday morning, two other games (Tiger Woods PGA 10 and Powerboat Challenge) were uploaded onto the N-Gage Game Showroom server casuing this "out of memory error".

was tested on N96 and N97...

What are you talking about? I just fired up the N-Gage on the N97, works fine here, with the newly released titles and all.

Both my devices are still experiencing the problem (either error or just a small "image" icon in middle of the screen).

if you re-install the N-Gage application it does FIX the problem but only once (i.e. as soon as you exit / switch phone off the error pops back up again).

I wish I could fire up ngage on my n97 to check this, but I had to delete it because I installed nokia messaging and my phone couldn't fit both of them in its memory...

Like for Unregistered above, the All Games gallery still works on my N82, so maybe this outage/bug/whatever affects only some countries/locales.

Well now I have to say: Huge epic fail from Nokia! I would like to hear what you would answer to question: "What the hell you are doing?"

I've had the same problem, but on two devices now. N95 and N86, but only rarely. It does seem to be a recurring problem.

It's about time Nokia abandoned N Gage, and started concentrating on selling games on the Ovi store more.

I just recently bought a Nokia 5730 XpressMusic. It's a nice phone. But the software and 'cloud' side of things just seem to be total 3rd class compared to other cellphone manufacturers.

Yeah. My last Nokia unless they get their act together.

I seriously think some top decision makes of the N97 hardware specs were not too bright or overly bright.
What company makes high end phones with a lower processor than their low end phones? Nokia
Which company makes high end phones with lower ram than their mid range phone? Nokia
Which company makes high end phones with no graphics acceleration but provides it in an old flagship 3yrs ago? Nokia
I think s60 is a great platform. I sometimes fell Nokia is trying to make s60 look bad so Maemo looks super good.

It's very interesting to go back 2 or 3 years and read articles and comments regarding Nokia. My, how the general tone has changed! These days it's very hard to find anything positive. Opinion of Nokia is falling through the floor. I think the biggest problem is Nokia's lack of response to their customers problems. We always feel shut outside, waiting for someone to answer the door, and no one ever does
