Sync email account and problems

I have setup a 'Sync' email account, I have the following problems - maybe someone can suggest something....

a) I can SEE on the data traffic emails with attachments (.jpg and .txt) going to the phone, yet they do NOT appear in the inbox!

b) I can create a new message, when I sync they appear in the data but do not appear at the inbox of the server (thunderbird)

Any ideas?

Can now send, with attachments, from the phone, the server (funambol) was configured slightly wrong.
Still can't see messages with attachments that are in my inbox, they are 'coming over the wire' to the phone.
