The Monday evening before the Symbian Show, branded SEE09 this year, traditionally provides fertile ground for mobile related 'fringe' events - and this year is no exception. Fitting around other events, we will be having a small, informal pub get together. So from 5:30pm or so until around 8:00pm we'll be in the Windmill pub, which is just a few minutes away from Oxford Circus.
Read on in the full article.
What? No jokes from Ewan? Noone's going to turn up then!! 8-)
:con? So for people who are going to SEE2009, you're suggesting they come into London the night before, and then again the next day for the show? Starting the pub meet when most people are either still at, or just leaving work? Add an hour or so of travel to the pub (if you are outside London), and seems like you're asking people to come all the way into London for less than 2 hours of meet time?
Wouldn't it make better sense to have a pub meet the same day as the show, when people have already paid to come into London? The times you suggest would fit in nicely for a post SEE meet, escpecially when we will have loads of new stuff to discuss from the expo. It'll even work for those going onto the Science Museum afterward.
It's more for people who are already working in London or who have flown in the night before the show.
Sadly the Tuesday night is always out because of the main Symbian party...
Regarding times, it can go on as late as people want to stay, but Rafe, Ewan and I are due to be at an Ovi bash at 8.30ish, so we'll be sneaking away then....
So many events, so little time!!
Will it be like a live version of article comments? Perhaps there will be random people wearing balaclavas rushing in, shouting "S60 = Epic Fail" and then rushing out again
😊

Steve can wear a T-Shirt that says "NO, I'M NOT F'KING SPONSORED BY NOKIA!!".
And Ewan can video the whole event.....
😃

That's a fair point, although as Steve pointed out the timing is somewhat fixed by other factors. It's also why we are / I am referring to this as a mini meet (small, informal). And yes I would agree most people would not want to come in to London specially!
In the past I've thought about doing something Tuesday evening, but it does not make much sense when Symbain are throwing their own party (but come along to that if you wish - I'll certainly be there). Tuesday is also, unsurprisingly, a very busy day for the AAS team as we look to get the most we can out of the show. If people would like to meet up at the end of day one for coffee or similar I'd be happy to do that.
In this case it is more a case of the team will be arriving in London from various places and need a central point to meet... and anyone else can along too... rather than not do anything at all.
I'm well aware its not ideal for most people, which again is why this is not a full on pub meet.
We'll look at doing a more user friendly event / time later on (pre-Christmas perhaps - maybe in conjunction with another mobile meet up).
I'll be there! I missed last year's mini (micro?) meet because I went straight to the "Evening with S60".
So what's this Ovi thing afterwards? Is it press only or can mere mortals join in too?

Or will there be N97 early adopters who wish that they hadn't bought one who will turn up and constantly moan about how they have been let down by Nokia, even though it doesn't help they will just keep moaning anyway?

I believe it's an industry/invite-only bash (sorry!), but we'll let you know if the event gets opened up.
On past form I'll be bladdered by 8:30 anyways...
