headphones and cpw

So this morning i went to cpw and was recommended the Sennheiser headphones for my phone - the guy told me that the N97 had a universal fitting that would take any headphone with the right jack.

I got home, they didn't work, so i took them back and he exchanged them - I got the new set home and they didn't work either.

I phoned a different cpw shop and they told me that headphones for this phone had to be nokia specific - i wouldn't be allowed an exchange or refund(as there was nothing wrong with the headphones) as i had put them in my ears - although i might be able to buy an adapter, is that correct ?

However, surely if a store assistant recommended these headphones to me i should be in a position to ask for a refund ...... shouldn't I ?

What are you guys using ? - I'd be interested to know before i go back to the store ..... AGAIN :frown:

Angie, what kind of Sennheisers have you got?

I've got a pair of Sennheisers and a pair of Shure EC2s and both work fine with the N97. Do the headphones that came with your N97 work ok - maybe the socket is dodgy?

Also, check you push them in all the way, make sure the jack plug is completely in the socket.

But any 3.5mm normal headphones should work with the N97 for listening to music (obviously you need a set with a microphone to take/make calls).

I use a pair of in-ear phones I bought from Virgin. THe 'standard' headphones that come with most phones / devices are too big to fit into my ( abnormally? ) small ear holes, so have to go for the 'in-ear' type.

I've used two different sets and have had no problems with them, and neither of them are 'Nokia specific' so I think that excuse is absolute tosh. Do the headphones that came in the box work with the handset?

I'd take them back on the premise that they were recommended to your by the shop, and you bought them based entirely on the assistant's recommendation.

thanks Celios - no the jack is in all the way.

I get a bad echo sound, until i press the black button on the headphones then it all kicks in crystal clear and stereo - but that would mean me pressing the black button constantly (there's no way it seems to keep the button depressed)

thanks Notty, the phones that came in the box work perfectly, but like you - they're uncomfortable to wear - also the little stereo loudspeakers that also came in the box are fine too.

i'd say it was a faulty batch of sennheisers but i know the headphones work on other things in my home, just not the phone

I use the sennheiser cx 300s with no remote and they work a treat, i take it yours has a in-line remote? Id take em back and say if your recomended items you expect them to work.

Yep, I have the same ones (without any buttons etc) and they work fine.

What type of headphone do I use with my N97?

I just received my Nokia BH-905 noise-cancelling Bluetooth stereo headphones ($299 at J&R - New York, shipped in four days).

Besides being well-designed and fashionable, they are the perfect accessory for the N97...

...they cancel out the derisive howls of laughter when people find out you were suckered by Nokia into buying an N97. 😉

aaww come on Notty .... did you even get a usb cable ? bless 😊

Biggzy 😉

Rdcinhou - wow, that's a lot of dollars😮

Well i've gathered together all the headphones in my house to take with me, just in case the cpw people try to tell me that it's the phones problem - and i'm taking my husband as back up

angiepea i looked up the headset you got from cpw they are a handsfree type by the look of em and nokia only seem to like nokia branded wired handsfree in my experiance.

thanks sorehammer 😊

I took them back and got a refund - then i hot footed it to hmv and got the sennheiser cx300 that you guys recommended ....... IN PINK !!!!! how totally cool 😃

apart from looking fabulous, they work great.

thanks again

One duff nasty phone aka the N97.
The battery of course
The mains charger,
A car charger ( which I think I've lost ! ) ,
A power adaptor thingy so it can run off the older type of charger,
The stylus
The headphones ( still brand new unused as previously explained )
THe remote control thing ( Brand new - still using the one from my N95! )

That's it.
