The Gadget Show's Jon Bentley is someone who usually manages to produce a good, informed account of anything technical, without dumbing things down too much. In Gadget Show Web TV 54, embedded in high quality below, he gives the Nokia N86 8MP a full review, concluding that it's a good successor to the N95 but doesn't match the N82 in some evening situations and feels, in 2009, a "little old fashioned". Comments welcome.

"little old fashioned" Thats what I thought before bying this phone because I owned the N95. But this is still the best Nokia camera phone. If the N97 had 8 megapixels, I would never have bought the N86.
there's more to camera capability than megapixels
Agree... sad but true, nothing match N82 for photo capabilities... on casual photos at night, the Xenon flash was the way to go😉
i would like it better if nokia would build a device like the n86 but have a suretype keypad like the e55 so we can have the best of both worlds. even better would be the same a full touchscreen with a portrait sliding suretype keypad and an 8mp camera. it wouldnt feel old-fashioned then
N86 should've been released with a Qwerty. Imagine the hype and media attention the N86 would gotten. I like the e75 but Nokia's policy of giving S60 non touch fans only 2.4" qwerty is so boring. A lot of blackberry fans would have noticed Nokia's n86 qwerty.
The unreliability of my brother's N97 is keeping me away from the flagship. Someone in Nokia needs to have their a** kick for the RAM issue. So now I am stuck to with my reliable e71.
Hope nokia releases some good stuff with 2.8" qwerty(minimum 2.6"😉 for s60 3rd edition. Also please give us more/better hardware choices for symbian 3.5" touchscreens (3.2" is good but 3.5" feels great).
I can't believe I never saw this before, theres no middle button? its a directional pad only? How does Nokia makes its decisions? baffles me sometimes! I'm planning to get this on upgrade come November, and I do not see any alternatives. I am old fashioned I do not want a touch screen (yet) and normal high end phones seem to be on the decline. I currently have a N82.
It doesnt need a middle button, its built in to the Directional one 😊
I wish people would get over the N82, the only thing it does somewhat better than the N86 is take photos in low light. N86 has far better optics and video.
just sent my n97 back for this... should be much more stable as its on S60v2

Its not about getting over it, only when complained about something will happen although I don't think Nokia listens to consumers, Apple seem to do a good job of that with theirs.
Anyway If its built into the directional one doesnt that mean it does have a middle button?
