emTube evolves into Open Video Hub

34 replies · 15,059 views · Started 28 October 2009

Do you remember emTube, one of the first YouTube video clients for S60? Well, it's back (after a fashion), in the form of Open Video Hub, available* for S60 3rd Edition and 5th Edition and with additional support for Daily Motion and Metacafe videos. It's also now Open Source, which is great news. The only catch is that, currently, Open Video Hub needs signing for a user's phone - see the screenshots, press release snippet and links below.

Read on in the full article.

This is the best piece of news you've posted on AllAboutSymbian in months. I honestly don't know why it's not a featured item.

Runs nicely on the i8910. Just make sure the cache folder is set to internal memory instead of phone memory!

EDIT: Cached files are given the same name; "tempvideo.flv", which is overwritten when viewing the next video. So if you want to save the video, yo'll have to re-name it (each time).

funny I'm having issues with this app on the N97 v20.
No rotating of the screen and I can't log into my youtube using my gmail account.
"no location header in redirection response! Check your proxy settings" is the error I get.

How in the heck do you actually sign this thing? I tried to use the symbiansigned website and it said my email wasn't linked to the UIDs?

there is an app called freesigner that you could use. but you need a cert and key first

I work in pki and can create RSA/DSA/ECDSA certs and keys pretty easily...what algorithm/keysize/format do these things need to be in? I was googling around and best I found was getting cert+key from some Chinese website that frankly I'm not comfortable with.

I can't sign it using Symbian Signed:
FAILURE: Submitted .sis file uses a UID that is not allocated to the account holder matching this email address.
Whatever that means!!

The chinese site has always been fine for me, and is probably about the fastest turnaround for getting a cert and key.

However, i think your signing app questions/issues are going to be better answered in darker corners of the interweb than AAS...

but couldnt log in to youtube 😞

You don't have to log in to watch, just select "set as default server", the top option. (you can change the default server if you wish later in Settings).

Also unable to sign using Open Signed, same error as Berty above. Bit frustrating, emTube was one of my N95 favourites, Mobitubia was never really the same!

...so instead of releasing an unsigned SIS file (in which case, some people wouldn't be able to install, but many would), these people released this file, which no one can install without going through signing the app themselves? Come back when you've grown up.

Installing it is very very easy. For grown ups.

Google has released a native S60 app for YouTube. Why not use that instead. Before google's app was released, I used MobiTubia which crashed frequently on my N85.

EmTube is special because it allows downloads.

This is a good app it includes youtube, daily motion and metacafe plus you can save videos.

If you can't install it search the internet either for a developers certificate with the right amount of capabilities, plenty of websites offer them or hack your phone (you might also need to get a devcert to hack you phone depending on phone and firmware.)

This software looks good, but is there any way for the application to search all three of the video sites? That's where the real potential of this application is for me.

I was able to sign the emtube and it works great on my Samsung I8910.

Here is a link on how to get your Key and Cert so that you can sign your own files.

When you play the video, it caches on your phone in the root of the memory. Once the movie has cached (progress slider in front of the play slider), you can find it in the root. Rename it as i described in post #1.

This signature cr*p is really starting to get to me. This would be a great application to use, but the only way to sign it would be to register/download/submit my IMEI number to god knows where.

And as has already been said, the free symbian signed service does not work with this one. Bah.

installed the app.....
but there are a few issues.....
unable to play metacafe videos....simply says"video not available"
also the youtube playback is slightly jerky!!!!

"Very very easy?"
Downloading extra software, registering, typing in IMEI#, copying, pasting, sending, blah blah blah... c'mon give me a break. Really, somewhere in the 1670's I've been ready to do that, but the world has evolved from back then.
Give me a signed app, available in a App/Ovi store and join the 21st century!

FOR ALL OF YOU WHO ARE LOOKING FOR FREE CERTIFICATES AND THE KEY FILE CAN BE ACQUIRED FROM HERE...

go to http://cer.opda.cn/en/index.php
register
enter ur EIME number and wait for the server it usually takes 48 hours!

1. Install Free signer
2. Upload the Sign.sis and File.key to ur phone or memory card
3. Upload the Unsigned files to wherever location you want.
4. Use the free signer...remember dont self sign it wont work...use the SIGN option and go to settigns locate the certificate and the key file then go add the Unsigned file to the task, and hit RUND!

HAPPY SYMBIAN~

Downloading, typing, copying and pasting are all really difficult and I can't do it.

FFS.

Too lazy more like.

It's easy. So easy that I know nine year old kids that are doing it.

Otherwise, the developer has to spend a lot of money getting the app signed though Symbian testing so some lazy whinging tw@t can have a free app.

Someone has done a lot of work developing an app and put it out there for free and people still whine and whinge because they can't be bothered to do their bit.

FFS again.

Yes.

and?

Some stupid conspiracy theory about cloning phones?

They don't need your IMEI to do that.
