V20 update has been pulled

31 replies · 8,301 views · Started 28 October 2009

Just uninstalled all Nokia apps, hard reset and was going to try and get the update again, OVI 2.0 told me there was no update, hmm that's odd, downloaded the NSU seperately and V20 is no longer available, others seem to be saying the same thing.

Not for all product codes.

It seems like the v20 firmware has disappeared from NSU for the following product codes:

Haha... you get surprises each day with this company. It won't be long before a major flaw is dicovered and all of v20 will be pulled of v30 will be promised in...6 months or so.

How strange!

I have a 0570817: RM-505_EMEA_EURO_QW1 Black device and got V20 last night. Spent all night re-installing everything (I'm pretty anal about this stuff! LOL) and all seems well enough. It's certainly much faster and the annoying little bugs seem to have been (mostly) dealt with.

I'm curious to know why just 2 EURO codes were pulled. Did all the EURO codes get the update yesterday?

Looks like another night of updating is due 🙄

Have you tried the "old" NSU? I had the same issue with the Ovi Suite Updater, but it worked fine with the recent NSU.

The udate checker page on the Nokia website is today saying that the 0570817 product code has a latest version of v12, whereas last night it showed v20.

I have been reading over at the Nokia Support boards that many people had OVI Suite bork their handset mid update, so that may explain it.

I used the regular NSU (I won't touch OVI Suite as it's way to slow and buggy) and it worked fine last night. I ran NSU just now and it tells me that whilst I have the latest FW, some operators may not have approved it and it doesn't offer me the option to re-install it like it normally does.

Once again, Nokia fail in communicating with their customers and this Nokia Fan Boy is getting increasingly frustrated with that. For the first time in over 10 years, I am seriously questioning the acquisition of a Nokia device.

Guess who's back, back again! Now backing-up/updating to V20 via Ovi. Will report back shortly if it works or not!

Sigh, 20.0.019 - "Update Startup Failed"

Guess i'll have to go get nemesis..

That's strange. I just ckecjed the Update page at Nokia and it still had v12.

I've had v20 a couple of days now and all seems well. I'm just curious to know what was up.

Zyyb, what version number do you get?

Yes it's back again for product code 0570817: RM-505_EMEA_EURO_QW1 Black.

It's still v20.0.019, so no changes.

I installed it on Tuesday but noticed yesterday that it had been withdrawn as there was no reinstall option on NSU.

Hopefully those of you having installation problems late on Tuesday and yesterday, may be able to update now.

Hi Guys,

yeah as Ian said, it's V20.0.019 but i'm still unable to upgrade, same error as before and i really don't know why. Someone else has changed their product code and managed to upgrade, but i'm on 0570817 like pretty much everyone else right and mine won't work!

Apparently there will be no FOTA either as it's such a large patch...

I'm on that same product code and it worked first time the other day.

What are you using to update? NSU or Ovi Suite?

Tried it with both! There are a few people having this problem and i really don't know what the difference is between those who can and those who can't. I uninstalled all Nokia stuff and did a clean install of NSU and Ovi 2.0 and even hard reset my phone, still no joy! Maybe it is my USB cable 🙄

Perhaps you all forgot to enter the secret pass phrase into NSU...

"Nokia is good, Nokia is great, all hail the mighty Nokia" 😃

Seriously though, up until this Monday I was running both the PC Suite and Ovi Suite.

However, I kept having to reconnect my phone to both of them recently even though I'd previously had no problem with either using the standard USB cable.

Therefore, on Monday, I did a full uninstall of everything Nokia, PC Suite, Ovi Suite, Cable drivers, Connectivety, the lot!

I then used the Nokia PC Suite Cleaner and rebooted the computer before reinstalling PC Suite and its components only. No Ovi Suite. I wasn't able to install Music Manager though as I kept getting the message "Failed: Network error" for Nokia Multimedia Common Components.

On Tuesday I was able to install v20 in a matter of minutes with no problem.

Aha makes sense now.

Spent the day re-installing Windows on my Mac, and then Ovi and NSU only to find that the phone just will not go into PC SUite mode.

Had to dig out the Windows laptop, installed Ovi Suite, and then removed NSU to re-install the updated version.

Had fingers crossed whilst it was firing up, and then once it recognised the device, and started to search for updates.

SHOCK and HORROR!! THere are no new updates available. I thought that HAS to be wrong.

But just checked on Nokia website. On Tuesday night, the product code 0576500 showed that the latest update was indeed v20. But today, Thursday, the latest version for this product code is v12. After the fiasco of trying to download it then, and now it's been withdrawn - WTF is going on?

Why has it been pulled? Sod's Law it effects my Product Code.

I really effing hate Nokia. THey are such a mess, it is beyond belief.

Poor Notty (to coin angiepeas term).

You really have been through it. Hardly fair when they withdrew it hours after launch and you, and a lot of other people, were wondering WTF!

It came back up this morning (same firmware code, so no changes) at about 09.30 hrs GMT for the Euro code (don't know about the others product codes that were pulled).

I, and a lot of others, have opted for the Euro code (English speakers) as this is the closest to generic firmware and is released before the CV (Country Variants) and operator branded firmware which usually arrives much later after approvals have been sought and operator crud ware added.

I debranded to 0570817: RM-505_EMEA_EURO_QW1 Black.

Quick tip Notty... get yer finger out before they withdraw it again to spite and confuse you! :banghead:

Just spent a VERY frustrating day trying to re-install NSU , only now to be told that there is no new FW.

Started with the Mac.
-Removed Windows partition.
- Re-partitioned the HD
- Re-installed Windows.
- Re-installed all the Windows drivers.
- Re-installed OVI suite and then NSU

Then found the internet connection had died. Re-set up another internet connection in the house.

Only to find that the phone does not go into PC SUite mode with the WIndows on the MAc.

Then reverted to the WIndows laptop.

- Removed all of NSU
- Downloaded new version of NSU a
- Re-installed all of OVI
- Did hard re-set of the phone.
- Connected to NSU - dreading the usual 'Cannot identify device'
- Connected and identified - YAY!!
- Then - Sod freaking law - no new updates available....

What a joke. Nokia are a complete and utter shambles.

SORRY - double post. I looked earlier for my previous one, couldn't find, and a fit of paranoia induced by Nokia withdrawing their v20 for ME regions, thought it was a conspiracy so posted again. Apologies.

Off to look for a Nokia rep to pummel to death.

:rofl::banghead::argh:

Sorry notty, you're just not having a couple of good days are you.

Have a paracetamol sandwich and lie down in a dark room for awhile.

Suddenly my firmware upgrade problems pale into insignificance compared to your frustrations.

Hey Notty :-P

That's far too much work man, if you want to do a little more, the way to get it to work seems to be to flash it with the V20 firmware, same process as debranding. More details are in the other V20 thread

@ Notty ......

I can't remember now matey - did you debrand yet ?

Ians code that he offered up works :icon14:

Get it out of the bin and try again

B*ll*cks to the phone, to Nokia, and NSU...

Its been thrown in a draw and is staying there til that rag bag of a company get a finger out of their anus and produce something that might even resemble quality.

I want to punch someone - anyone, don't care who - at Nokia really hard in the face, and shove the phone up their bleeding nose.

I shouldn't have to de-brand it as its a sim free product, and that's why I bought it sim free in the first place, as I "should" get access to the newest FW releases when they are first out. Shelled out 500 for this piece of garbage. Even did a hard re-set on the phone, and when that had finished, I just looked at it, and you know what - just could not be bothered with it, and shoved it into a draw.

I bet Nokia realised their magic v20 fcuked up in all arabic fonts and scripts and then pulled it. Looking through all the product codes that have been pulled, I wouldn't be surprised.

What a total mess. How can you release v20 for all product codes then pull it two days but only for some codes and not all? More amateurish dramatics from a company fast going downhill.

Its all b*ll*cks, b*ll*cks and even more b*llcks.

GRRRRRRR

😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡::mad

ps - thanks for the sympathies though, much appreciated. I'm glad you guys have had an easier time of it.

i can't blame ya for feeling so 😡

But, you know what I meant, so it had the desired effect!😃😃😃

Have calmed down now, after my little rant. Off out to the local shopping mall - it's the height of entertainment here in Saudi - coupled of course with spending the bulk of the day trying to sort out NSU....

Have just recently sold my car and now am looking out for a replacement car. I am just so glad Nokia do not make cars. Phew. Can you imagine buying a car built like the N97?

*Looks great from the outside, but the engine is a cobbled together mish mash of rubber bands, spit and sawdust.
*Take it into a garage and the mechanics laugh at you for buying it.
*Major bits of the car malfunction.
*The windscreen wipers scratch the windscreen as they wipe.
*Press the accelerator and nothing happens.
*Press the brake and the car shuts down.
*THe key doesn't unlock the door, you have try it three times for it to work.
*Drive somewhere and the car stops working when you get there.
*The steering controls are so confusing,, you have no idea how to even start it.
*As for the sat nav - forget it, use a map.
*Try and steer left, it goes right.
*It doesn't run on diesel or petrol, just some insanely rare fuel that came supplied with the car, and not available anywhere else.
*The garage who sold you it, have no interest it buying it back. they were just glad to get rid of it.
*Despite all the publicity, hype and the long waiting time......NO-ONE else has one!
*You have to resort to finding out how to drive it by spending DAYS on an internet message board.
* A new replacement model has already been launched after only a few months.
* Finally, you wish you had your old car back, it was safe, reliable, not that bad looking actually, and you know what - it was pretty darned good, wasn't it?

😊

*sigh* Still no v20 for unbranded UK phones. I was hoping that Nokia would've brought it out yesterday as a "sort of" birthday present, but no such luck 😞

I've been using V20 on my Black UK Unbranded N97 from the day it came out.
