Dropped E71, keyboard frozen?

6 replies · 4,795 views · Started 30 October 2009

Hi there. I recently dropped my E71 (not from a great height, maybe 2 feet max). There are no obvious loose parts, damage or rattles, but the keyboard has stopped responding when I power up the phone. Has anyone experienced this before, or may know a fix for it? I would think if it was totally knackered there would at least be some loose connections, so im hoping theres somethign i can do to fix it up!! I tried the usual reboot, but to no avail.😡

Any advice appreciated!

Mike

Most probably it is a hardware issue , after a drop this can happen . Screen broken or loose connectors .
To find out , wheter it is hardware or software issue , you could manipulate the software first by resetting . It is adviced to have a backup on your computer for all your personal data and settings .
See my post about Reset here : http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/81021/
Good luck ....

Thanks for the advice. Problem is the keyboard wont respond so I cant get past the 'pin code' stage when it powers up. Am unable to type anything at all.

I've had BB Treo and a couple of HTC phones apart. There is probably just a cable that has come lose inside. Never had a Nokia apart, but I doubt there is much difference.

I had a look last night, the screws holding the back on have an unusual lokoing head, with about 7 sides and are very tiny. I have a laptop screwdriver set but didnt have anything to fit this. Might have a look around hardware stores and if I can find anything Ill have to take it in some repair shop Id say. :frown:

Thanks for the advice,
Mike

I think from memory its a T5 or T6 security bit you'll need ... easily found at your local hardware store or ebay 😉
