N97 v20 out? Check. Now works with Mac? Check

With the Nokia N97 v20 firmware now out for a couple of days and fixing the underlying Sync system issues, I'd been on refresh on Nokia's Mac software site every few hours. It seems that the N97 has now been added to the compatibility list for iSync and that you can now do full iCal and Address Book syncing to the Apple Mac. Go download! I'll be testing this out thoroughly over the next few days...

Read on in the full article.

Is this iSync plug-in only work for v20 users?

I've been one of the unlucky ones, where my product code for the N97 has had its v20 pulled, so been wasting my time trying to upgrade for the last three days.

Would be interested to know though, if this iSync update is only for those on the latest firmware versions. Not happy with Nokia right now, as I bought the N97 sim free, as I (mistakenly) thought this would be give me access to all the FW upgrades as soon as they were out!

Yes, the upgrade is only for those with the new firmware, since it fixes the old BT sync issues that were in the old firmware. It's about time for this to come out.

what iSync only just launched? blimey
i was bummed when it wasn't available a month after launch - but its nearly 6 months now.

went through about 90 hoops to get my contacts on.
using a combo of mail for exchange and google.

Generally I like the upgrade, but they made one change I hate and there's a big bug. The thing I hate is Nokia removed the "Recently Added" list for Podcasts. The big bug is that pressing Back from Now Playing takes you back to the Standby screen not the Library list.

What does this have to do with the iSync plugin?

Anyway, back on track. It seems that several users purchased the Macmaster plugin only to have Nokia release this the next day. Plenty of really annoyed customers. I am so glad that I was smart enough to dump this phone no matter how much Steve wanted this phone to be success and how much he apologized for Nokia's apparent fail. To the people considering purchasing the N97 Mini, let the N97 be a lesson to you. Get another phone that is already supported and most of all do not take Steve's opinions as being non-biased.

Then they haven't been paying attention. I've been saying for months that the missing iSync is ONLY because of the Sync bugs in N97 firmware and that v20 would sort it out. iSync was clearly only going to be a few days after v20's release.

Then you're missing out. I stand by my opinion that the PR 2.0 N97/mini is now the most functional and useful smartphone in the world. If you want to use a phone that can do a lot less then that's entirely your own call - it's your money.

Steve are you kidding? V20 sorted it out six months later. Where were you in pointing this out? You were too busy proclaiming the virtues of a critically flawed phone that everyone except you and Nokia acknowledged. Every iSync plugin developer said from day one that the phones firmware was flawed and that Nokia needed to fix it, but I guess you missed this. You were too busy talking about GPS, semi-missing the lens cover issues, and talking about anything else except how Nokia dropped the ball on this phone.

Of course you will stand by your opinion. You will continue to stand by the flaws of Nokia no matter what. That's generally why your opinion mean less and less. Good that there is Rafe and Ewan to provide decent commentary.

I've mentioned *numerous* times in various media that iSync was missing because of Sync bugs. And this last Phones Show (post v20) has been the ONLY real time that I've said anything hugely positive about the N97. I knew full well that the N97 was fatally flawed until the new software came along, which is why I waited to deliver my Phones Show verdict and which is why AAS STILL hasn't done a proper review of the N97. Now that it's here, we have ourselves a slightly-less-flawed flagship.

But the N97 mini will be better in many ways, certainly more streamlined.

And, yes, I was as frustrated as the next person with how slow Nokia were to sort the software out...

Sadly it's incorrect to say that the new software update is out. Only owners with some versions of the N97 can update while those with other versions of the N97 have another reason to be unhappy with Nokia since for no apparent reason the update isn't offered to them yet. Come on Nokia your credibility is at rock bottom and I'm beginning to regret not buying a iPhone. If you're going to update your software do it for everyone at the same time.😡

If you're talking about SIM-free N97s then yes, I absolutely agree that Nokia need to pull their finger out and make sure all product codes are covered.

If you're using a network-bought (subsidised) N97 then you'll have to wait for the network to approve the new version - that's the pain you get for opting for going down the contract usage model, I'm afraid....
