PC Suite - where are the contact folders ?

9 replies · 4,442 views · Started 13 March 2003

The PC Suite program that works on the PC, is supposed to be used as an explorer for the P800. I do not find the 'Contact' folders. If it works, it will be a good way to move contacts from the 'unfiled' folder to appropriate folders like 'business' & 'private', since sync. with outlook does not transfer it to these specific folders.

Also, I heard about P800 filemanager application. Can this application help in moving items from one folder to the other within the P800.

Can anyone help ?

HI ,

The program that shipped with you P800 is not allowing access to the P800 system folders.
It goes directly into <..\DOCUMENTS\MEDIA FILES> directory.
I use file Manager for p800 (3rd party app) in order to browse other folders on my P800 (http://www.epocware.com).
You can also use Symbian connect original software.

Regarding the move of contacts into categories -- don't think it will work for you sonce the contacts are saved in one database file.

then how are these folders 'business', 'personal' and other u create are stored in P800. Why even the manual encourages us to use folders. But i don't see how u can effectively use folders for contacts in P800 with these problems (btw - u have to move contacts one by one into folders).

can ur File Manager program cut/copy/paste/move items from folder to folder (also contact folders) and in bulk ?

i have now the file manager program, but could not manipulate any of the P800 contacts folder.
Since you said, it is a database file, can we upload a database file from PC, if we know the format of this file. (this could be a easier way to upload contacts to P800, then synchronizing.

If you haven't figured this out already...

1. Go to contacts
2. Select the contact you want to modify
3. You should now see just the contact in the screen, and if you looked closely you would have seen the menu in the right hand corner change from all to unfiled
4. Select what category you want from the right hand menu (i.e. business, personal...)
5. Your done and the contact is assigned.

Yes, these folders on the P800 (equivalent to category), you can only operate (move, copy, paste) one contact at a time. That is why, I needed an external program like "file manager" that would help me to move a bulk of contacts from one folder to the other. (btw: i am handling 500 odd contacts with 8 folders). But with the free "file manager" i got, i can't even locate the contact folders.

Has anyone found a way of doing this yet? It would be great to be able to categorize groups of contacts in one go.

Yeah, its frustrating moving my 300+ contacts one by one into 5 different folders 😮 ...A quick fix would be nice 😃

Although they may be refered to as folders, contacts are stored in one single file/database (as stated), there is NO Contacts 'folder' with sub folders of your contacts organised neatly. They should really be referred to as categories.

As such the only way to move a batch of contacts would be with a program that can manipulate the contacts database directly. Tottally possible, just needs to be written (unless it already is, i dont know).

So unfortuately the only way to get the result you require at the moment is to open each one and change its category manually.

To reiterate so the thread doesn't go roid in circles, there is NO contacts 'folder', that is just a phrase.

If developers would read these boards and actually see what the consumer wants then this would have been written long ago, along with the WMA player, camcorder etc, instead of 15 'today page' clones (which to be fair should have been there by default, shame on you SE).
