After all the N97 bashing, I was trying an iPhone today. Ooh. Ahh. Until someone wanted to transfer an MP3 to the iPhone from another phone.
Bluetooth File Transfer? Nope.
Try saving an email attachment? Nope.
What about Mass Storage Mode? Nope.

Yeah, people do have a right to complain about the N97 to a point. But i'm still out there showing my iPhone loving friends how it's superior and all they can ever come back with, is slicker interface, itunes and apps. (Stupid apps normally, only 5% are any good) and the N97 interface gets better all the time.
Plus dont forget the cost, Orange have released their tarriff for the iPhone, so much for competition bringing the price down! On a TWO YEAR contract, on a �45pm tarriff the 3GS with 32GB will STILL cost you �100. Insane. I picked my N97 up 3 weeks after launch for �370 and you could get the same Tarriff sim only on O2 for �20 a month, that's over �300 cheaper over the course of 2 years plus the fact you wouldnt be tied down.
The next iPhone has to do something pretty special to warrant swapping, you still cant take a picture in the dark! Though some might not be able to do that without extensive flash bleeding on the N97 too :-P

I love Nokia because of their feature and It is very easy to operate it. I love symbian operating systems S60. We can get many software for symbian OS S60. It works really fine with me. I had not used iphone but Whatever I heard about iphone, All users have some problmes. You could not get the application like Symbian S60 and Iphone users are facing backup problems.

No. Not in my experience,and does not come ANYWHERE near close to doing so. For goodness sake, it cannot even handle phone calls without freezing up. Does the iPhone do that?
Anyone heard of iPhone 3GS users who were SO disappointed that they reverted to using the iPhone 3G?
And just out of curiousity here - anyone know when Apple release phone software udate, whether it is global - or do some select people get it way ahead of others - even on unbranded phones?

No, not in my experience, it does not come ANYWHERE near close to doing so.It should go back in the tin, and returned to Nokia.For goodness sake, it cannot even handle phone calls properly with out freezing up and having to re-boot. Anyone ever heard of an iPhone 3GS user being so disappointed with their new phone, that they reverted back to a 3G model or even a original iPhone?
And out of sheer curiosity here, cos I really do not know the answer, when Apple release a software update for the iPhone � does it only go to a few select people at a time, or is it released globally?

The N97 has had so much "marketing hype" here in Saudi, wall to wall coverage, but no-one is buying it. You know why don't you? - because it's rubbish.
It's Nokia who have been weighed, measured and found wanting, not Apple.
The reasons I didn't buy the Iphone are:
-No Flash
-3.2 MP camera
-No ability to use your own headphones and have a remote conrtol (AFAIK)
-Sync with Outlook only through Itunes (ASAIK)
-No Radio
-The Fact that you HAVE to use Itunes to sync music, and that Itunes doesn't support WMA.
-Only available on contract
-Doesn't multi task
I still really wanted one though, but my head came before my heart. Haven't really regretted it, but the N97 really has been a right royal pain in the rear. Here's for a better V20!
But at least you know what you get with an iPhone ,and that is my point. With the n97, no-one has got a gnikcuf clue til you get it out of the box and try to make it work � hopefully by smashing it into the face of a Nokia rep. Grrr.
Out here in Saudi, 99% of the phones you buy in phone shops are unlocked, including the iPhone. What was the point of me buying an unlocked unbranded N97 � oh yeah, so I could leave it in the draw at home and carry on using my N95�.
Basically, I feel like I�ve been duped and conned with the N97 and it�s a nightmare trying to get any sense out of Nokia at all. The communication I�ve had with their Customer Care Centre, is laughable. Really is laugh out loud stuff, beyond despair, it�s well and truly comical.
iPhones have become too common place now. Most people have them. Its just not a novelty factor any more. Be proud to be different. 😊
Notty, you really need to stop bashing the phone on account "it can't handle phone calls", this is obviously your problem with your phone, i've been using the phone heavily for 4 months (about 2000 minutes) and it hasn't hung on a phone call yet, call quality is actually quite good, better then the iPhone i've found.
I'm not saying you don't have problems, but if anyone bought a phone that doesnt handle calls, they should and would return it for one that did.
Lets not forget that when Apple released their latest iPhone software it had a major bug in it too, they had to release a fix about a week after..

I disagree. I think if I spend over 500gbp on a phone that cannot handle phone calls, then I have every right to bash it, and will do so at every opportunity. You know if blew a few grand on car that didn't drive, wouldn't you criticise it when there is seemingly no fix??It's such a frustrating experience, you just have no idea.
No support from Nokia, no support from their Customer Care section, no support from the retailer.
Am I just supposed to accept this quietly? Oh well, its only 500quid, it doesn't matter? Oh well, everyone has got v20, so that makes it ok?

i honestly and openly thought about getting an IPhone before the N97, but thank god i didn't.
Despite all the problems i've had with the N97, i would be far more frustrated with an iPhone. And as for the 'its does everything it says on the tin', my mate has returned 2 3GSs because of problems making phone calls.....
there are probably better phones than the n97 out there, 3GS is not one of them. Its a slick, fashionable toy, not a serious smartphone.

I'm not saying you should accept it quietly or that you don't deserve a working product, i'm saying that bashing the phone in every thread is getting a bit tiresome especially when your circumstances do not reflect most other people, a lot have had problems, but not nearly as many as you and not for making calls.
If i bought a car for �1000 and it did not drive, i would return it. I totally understand your frustration and if there was some way to help i would, but your phone seems to be a lost cause, you should return it, repair it or break it and claim through insurance, anything to get rid of it!
The reason why I never bought an iphone is because of its inferior imaging qualities. I also dont like Apple as a company that much.
But honestly the N97 is definitely not that great of a phone. I had it for a week and got rid off it and have now been using the Samsung Omnia HD for almost two months. Great phone, AMAZING screen, nice speakers, plays back all my avi files, nice design, camera is pretty good even though that "HD" recording is a marketing joke.

Yes its released globally.. how because Apple include ALL the languages in the firmware for every release.
Symbian .. really does need to adopt the ability to add the languages users require .. It just can't be that hard .. I keep moaning on about it .. one thing it will stop is people madly changing product codes just to get the language support they want.
I work with iPhones all day .. I don't want one .. for some people they're fine .. but not me.
