New Symbian Concept Phone from Mitsubishi

20 replies · 6,597 views · Started 13 March 2003

Mitsubishi are showing at CeBIT a Symbian phone. The phone is in the planning stages (currently best thought of as a concept phone). Features include a 1/4 VGA screen, a high resolution camera (megapixels), Memory Stick Duo slot, and Voice over IP technology. Sounds nice! All this from a company who has no public link with Symbian.

The concept is a:
Free style Mobile Phone with a high resolution camera. It is easy to change the style, from the viewer style to the camcorder style or the camera style.
When the style is changed, the function is changed also.

Some of the features are:
Sending and receiving data using wireless LAN
 High resolution camera (Mega pixels)
 Memory Stick Duo
 QVGA LCD
 Symbian OS
 Picture
 Video
Voice Phone (IP using wireless LAN)

This is evidently a future phone in development, but this gives us a hint of what the next Symbian phones are likely to like. It gives an indication of why Symbian will be powerful - all of these relatively complex features are not easy to implement. By using Symbian OS manufacturers cut down considerably on development costs. They get a custom desinged, flexible OS from a company who is keen to encourage them to differentiate the software.

WOW! Really good looking! Impressive features wlan, voice over ip 😃
Hope it becomes a reality. 😉

That phone is Mitsubishi, not Mutsubusho. Otherwise known as Panasonic. What's all this "no public link with symbian" nonsense, they're a bloody shareholder!

Chill out this was a typo, the letter "o" is next to the letter "i", even a child would understand this. And you are talking about Matsushita (Panasonic) and Not Mitsubishi.

Matsushita is the same as Panasonic (or NAIS) NOT Mitsubishi... :P
Mitsubishi is just Mitsubishi

I think you mis-read. He asked if he was going to see a new MS Phone at CeBit, not your web site
😃

I think you mis-read. I was telling him that if he wishes, then he can see new MS Smartphones because THERE ARE SOME NEW MS Smarthones at CeBIT!!! And I was proving it by posting links to my photos...

no, please, don't visit my website, visit - All About Symbian dot com - the best web site about Symbian!
MS Phones look just like the SPV......I mean...they are quite similar.
M$ want to impose some standard looking phone (similar to PC), where only software is important. That's the reason all new and old M$ powered phones looks like hardware clones.

Looks a lot like a Clie NR / NX / NZ series though.

But nice. Definitely nice design. Hope that's not heavy nor as bulky as the Clie's

So its definately a Misubishi then. Its good to see another major manufacturer using Symbian even if it is only a concept device.

Now we seem to have firm evidence of a Motorola Symbian device this leaves Pansonic as the only Symbian shareholder yet to announce a device. Well there is still the Symbian Exposium in April, so lets hope some more announcements will come then.
Thats what i'm thinking, wonder if they'll sell me a concept for a stupid amount of money 😃 😉
it is not worth any money! for example: the only thing that concept model from Samsung with Series60/Symbian, that was presented at CeBIT, could do was: taking pictures through camera. Nothing more...

Bah!, stop spoiling my visions!, it's a great idea I dont care 😃

No, seriously, I hope they decide this is a worthwhile project...suppose this kind of stuff will become common place over the next few years, hope they aren't just teasing us :-?
