Gems in the Ovi Store...

Finally, I found something worth buying from the Ovi Store (and believe me, I've looked a lot!).

So....Let's start a thread of the GOOD programs that we've found there (this shouldn't take long, right?).

Phrasebook Lite (Free) by Herocraft is a multilingual phrase book which encompasses many common phrases in English, German, French, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Russian, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Polish, Slovak, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish and Greek. I'm 1/4 Czech, 1/4 Slovak and 1/4 Danish and have had 7 years of instruction in Spanish...I've checked (no pun intended!) and found them to be quite correct.

For most folks the Lite (free) version will get you basic phrase, but for US$2.99 you can purchase the full version from Ovi to get access to the more complicated phrases and even put them together in your own Conversation list for easy quick call-up.

All-in-all the program seems well written and is mostly finger-friendly.

Minor flaw....no kinetic scrolling and the scrubber bar is tiny (not good for visual cueing to know that there is more content below). The scrolling feature functions somewhat like the drag and drop in windows (i.e. "push" toward where you want to go).

Coolest feature...an Exercise whereby it shows the source phrase and multiple destination language phrases and you have to select the correct one. Pretty good for developing an instinctive translation of a phrase.

I guess people have just overlooked this thread. I'll add one I found the other day:

SPB Puzzle - It's a jigsaw puzzle game that works very well on the N97. It was fiddly at first but once I finished a couple of puzzles, I started to get used to it. You can move pieces smoothly around the screen, and pieces lock in place when they fit correctly. It comes with a pack of about 10 images to start you off, and you can download more for free. You can even make jigsaws from photographs on your phone, which adds to the fun!

It normally costs 8 but SPB Software have a half-price sale on, making this game certainly worth the money. You can try out the free demo first if you like, or dive right in by getting it here. The demo includes two images, and allows you to make one puzzle with a custom photo. You have to pay to see the rest.

The full game itself is about 7Mb in size, and individual free puzzle packs are between 3-6Mb each. For those worried about space on their C: drive, you can install the game on Mass Memory, and any packs you download will install to Mass Memory too.

There's only a couple I really use...

Offscreen make loads of nice looking apps as I'm sure everyone is aware, my personal favourites (all free) are:
Converter - I know the phone comes with one, but the touch interface and graphics on this make it so much easier to use, genuinely well designed app.
Tips - Not amazingly useful but it works well and has a nice interface, plus it's an app which Apple have advertised heavily on their iPhone TV ads so nice to have a free equivalent for S60.
Resistors - Useful if you work with resistors, not if you don't, quick and easy way of finding out values from the colour codes.
Checkers - Really responsive with the touch, nice graphics, just a shame the AI is so easy to beat, good for 2 player though.
Speedtouch - Really simple game just pressing spheres which light up but I sit there for ages when I'm bored at work getting frustrated that I can't beat my girlfriends highscore.
