Roy Tanck hits the nail on the head with his observations on both Opera and Gravity. In his thoughts on Opera Mobile (which we reviewed here) he says that "the Norwegian company has made browsing fun again". This follows on from the "much needed sexiness" that Gravity added. The question is whether manufacturers realise this is just as important as an environmentally friendly box or a new wallpaper?
Read on in the full article.
What Roy is recommending is basically what is so wrong with the way the current industry is heading. What is the point of sexiness if a new sexy UI is difficult to use and requires more steps to accomplish a single step?
Opera Mini 5 is mighty nice and tab browsing is a welcome edition, but I find that I require more taps to accomplish even the most basic steps in comparison to Opera Mini 4.
Don't get me wrong, I like sexy icons too, but to call S60 'DOS' like is amazingly stupid of him. Who is this Roy and what makes his opinion more important than the average joe who votes with their money?
"UI Concept video"...eh?...what?...where?
Can't be bother to search, I'm afraid.
am getting tired of Symbian Fundation and all this proof of concepts, simulated UI and stuff.
guess i should get an Android phone. at least is more "concrete" than all the buzz around Symbian^4
Don't get the use of the word 'sexy' when applied to inanimate objects. The only things I find sexy are other humans. What is wrong with me?

ummm, i think EVERY manufacturer reallizes that a slick looking UI is important. in fact every manufacturer understands this EXCEPT nokia, they are the only ones left who just does not "get it". but dont worry, symbian^4 will be released on time in the year 2017.
I never thought I would ever see the words sexy and come in a subject on this site. LOL.

dont worry 😊 you are obviously not a gadget freak, loving how smooth the menus and functions are, not worrying about the lack of ability or function!
Myself I am rather sick of those wanting a capacitive screen, that they think is better and more sensitive just 'cos apple use it...
Some resistive screens CAN be sensitive, and do not need you to take your gloves off to use them!!

this may be so, but **please** not at the expense of function, ease of use, and ability of expansion!!
I have tried some of the samsung 'widget' UIs, and find that the screen very soon gets too crowded, or if the screen is cleared, than you have to find the widget, pull it out, and only then you can use it.. (yes I know that *some* can be changed to 'finger mode' to help this, but most reviewers to busy loving widgets...
Thanks for writing about this 😊.
By no means do I consider myself an expert in mobile UI design, and my blog expresses my personal experiences only. But then again I am a professional designer, and an avid gadget freak.
I have a Nokia and an iPod Touch. Launching an app in the iPod takes a few swipes (assuming I'm not on the right screen of icons already) and a single press.
On the E71, I need to press 'menu', then 'installations', than select the right icon and 'click' it. And when I'm done with the app I need to traverse this tree all the way back up again. Things get far worse for things like turning off 3G, which is buried about six levels deep.
By a 'sexy' interface I mean one that's clever. One that uses modern technology (like touch screens), is flexible and places those things at your finger tips that you use daily. But looks are important too. They add to the pleasure of using a device and help sell units.
