Now I'm not boohooing, railing against the system or slagging off my N97 (I say mine but actually the repair shop have had it in their ownershio wayyyyy longer than me 😊 )I've kind've got passed that, well taht or it'll kill me.
However after their previous effort to repair the camera lense by reflashing the firmware CPW do at least seem to be attempting to replace the correct parts this time but the phone has been with them nearly 3 weeks and is still awaiting parts for at least another week they think. Which ties in with the possible shortage of replacement parts that a few others here are reporting. I think it's fair to say this indicates a much higher return rate than may be indicatted by AAS or Nokia (unsurprisingly) because they should've had time to ramp up production on the replacement parts by now if it was only a few, after all these issues have been known/admitted for more than two months now.
Before anyone says - yes I could've kept the phone with me until the parts were available but becasue this is a NAM purchased phone (gift-ish) and I was experience a lot of difficulty/refusal getting it repaired under warranty, once I'd got it in seemed best to leave it there until sorted.
However the result of this appalling quality control is that a flagship phone that I have had for just over 2 months or so has only been in my hands for 2 weeks and by the time I actually get to use it has been superseded by it's lower specc'd but actually functioning sibbling and I have wasted 2 months-ish of Ovi Navigation that was purchased with the phone. Althogh I was given this phone at a great price by my brother I would personally think very very long and hard about buying another Nokia product. And purchasers with 18-24 mths contracts must feel less than thrilled and judging by this parts bottleneck there must be quite a few of them.
Hahahahaha - getting funny now, finally get phone back from repair centre (thinks Ooo bottle-neck for parts must have eased) go in and pick it up last night and find that although got lovely new cam lense and guess cover and exciting new backplate containing I assume improved GPS aerial unfortunately and I guess inevtiably with this peice of poo the unlock slider doesn't work (stuck) on replacement backplate (guess it's all in one unit). So back in it goes for an undisclosed time and guess there may not have been an unblocking in the parts supply shortage after all and they just slapped a faulty one on which is probably why it was lying around.
4 Weeks and counting - seriously by time I get to use this excuse for a phone it will have been removed from the shops, already gone at Voda and local CPW only stocking the mini now. What a farce, stuck with PoS for another 11 months - Thanks Nokia and good luck with your exciting new product range. Back to my 4 yr old SE W800 for some more time I guess 😃

Don't give up!!!!!!
I had all these problems and felt exactly as you do (1 1/2 months with the W810i and quite a few angry phone calls) but have now got an N97 that now works and with V20 firmware installed for me it is reasonably close to the phone i expected at launch.
Hang in, you may learn to love it yet!!!!
:top:
I would just take it too nokia direct.
Much less hassle 😃
I did, after a half day calling Nokia UK re problems they suggested I take it into Regent St flagship, went there and they said couldn't help. Problem is phone is a NAM variant which was a gift-ish. Then rang Nokia UK back and explained problem and pointed out is unlocked phone bought from a Nokia store and they said that Regent St should definitely be able to help. So went back there with no luck again (apparently their computer system wasn't set up to handle non UK versions :con? ) and they themselves suggested I go to CPW as a Nokia care point. Now I've got it in there reluctant to mess around and there are no other Nokia care points in central London - nearest is Kingston, not trolling around for a poxy phone again and again.
Anyway we have progress/well update today - get call saying my phone is ready (now I've learned not to get to excited when I get the calls). So go in to be told that they cannot repair the phone because you guessed it it's a NAM variant. So I pointed out (quite calmly I thought) that the reason the unlock slider wasn't working is that it's a faulty replacement part already fitted by them - "Oh". Now getting sent away again for 2-4 weeks.
Just how bad can one phone and it's support experience be - I guess we'll find out.
I phoned Nokia.
Ring ring ring ring ring ring
(15m later)
"Hello, can you tell me whether you have the parts in stock? I don't want to send my phone in and be without it for three weeks."
You would like a loan phone?
"No, I just want to know how long it'll take to repair because I understand there's a shortage of GPS parts"
I can't tell you, call the number on the freepost form...
"That's just a freepost tracking number".
Gah.
