Sure. What are you doing reading and posting on All About Symbian then? 😊 Non techie geeks don't even know the name of their phone OS, certainly don't read this site.

March 2009.

Right, I must have been referring to another unofficial beta build then 😊 So tell me again, how typical user can find this on Nokia Sports Trackers site? By not fining 5800 or N97 there and googling it? You really think this is how it should be done?

Is that based on real statistics or did you just make it up?
Are you trying to break the record for how many times you can be wrong in one thread?

I offered no opinion on how it should be done. I do mine through the Options->Check for Update menu option. It's really easy and it just offered me a 2.06.
This link is from FEBRUARY 2009. How many months ago is that?

DUH!
Many predicted the death of Symbian...
It's just a matter of time before Nokia completely phases out Symbian. Of course Nokia can't officially come out and say so. This would cause MASS loss of sales, investments, partnerships, support, panic, hysteria etc.
Lets not forgot Samsung owns 20%+ market share and they have dropped Symbian. Their last device was the i8910HD.
Every major manafacturer seems to be going away from Symbian and choosing Android or their own OS. Sony Ericsson and Motorola are producing very few Symbian devices of late...
The death of Symbian is coming whether you like it or not.
I think this is Nokia's smartest move. If they want to compete in the future Symbian is not the way forward.

Good for you. My 5800 came WITHOUT any version of Nokia Sports Tracker installed. How can I do "Options->Check for Update menu option" then? DUH! 😊

Both 2.05 and 2.06 are nowhere to be found on any official Nokia sites. How did you download the initial version - from some warez/crack site?
That before too long (12-18months) we will have VMware which will enable you to load the OS of your choice on devices with enough RAM/CPU ..
This either under Maemo .. being able to load Symbian whatever power they're up to also load WinMo 7, OSX or even WebOS.. sound too far fetched .. well um no ..

What's really interesting is that everyone's jumping on the Maemo bandwagon without anything really being known about Maemo 5 & 6.
The N900 is still not on general sale as far as I am aware, so no consumer has been able to use one for real; it could turn out to be a horrible piece of junk when used as a "normal" phone. The fact that it only works in landscape mode except for the phone app is already potentially limiting, and certainly doesn't give the impression that Maemo 5 has been conceived with the "average" user in mind....
Symbian will not die (inside Nokia) , but will remain as another in-house proprietary OS. Maemo will be used in the higher end products and ultimately will migrate down into mass market phones, as Symbian has done - this will take a long time. Symbian foundation will ultimately fail in making Symbian/S60 a widely used open source platform in mass market phones outside of Nokia.
