On my 9210, under the "memory" appl., I got

In use 2562 KB
Available 1476 KB

Documents 14KB
Excel 362B
Audio 135KB
Fax 45KB
e-mail 0B
SMS 2237B
Agenda 10KB
Contacts 28KB
Images 229KB
Installed apps 393KB
Other files 1706KB

...what are OTHER FILES? Are they necessary? Eventually, what files shall I delete to free enough memory to run "DOOM" for example????

Thanks.

Try installing the all_memory_card_data.sis and All_Nokia_9210_data.sis and select d
This should move all the nokia apps to the d from c and free some mem!

in messaging press shift-ctrl-x
select memory and set it to memory card!
Select move and then done!

open file manager
move the files in c\system\install to d\system\install
just DO NOT move the install.log file!

Right thats all for now![ This Message was edited by KayonLord on 2002-04-27 1013 ]

I've done all of the above and found you can have 3- 3.1 meg free. You can move all the help files to d if you really want to keep them at all.I have had more but the shortcuts, bookmarks etc. and new loonyworld pics take up a little space. I have a concern with progs like active desk though, as fine as it is as a tool, i can't seem to run a lot of other apps due to the memory it uses when open. Is there a way round it? I guess the only real solution to the memory problem is to wait for the 9210i and see if Nokia have resloved it. Either that or play cards instead of doom. BTW, they did release another version of doom which uses less memory.[ This Message was edited by hazy1uk on 2002-04-27 1159 ]

Virtual memory would be nice if someone could manage it. I know it would slow the application, but it beats having to shut down apps..... doesn't it?

In a similar vein, it doesnt seem to matter too much to me whats on the c drive..

Im a little confused as i also use Switcher to see what is running on my machine and by getting rid of most of the running stuff it shows about 3118kb or free memory, which i take to be RAM, where as you guys seem to be clearing space on the c drive that is more like hard drive space. Deleting stuff from the c drive doesnt seem to effect the free memory in switcher, and other than as a store for temp files i cant see any reason for this to matter when running stuff.

Im not saying im right and you guys are wrong, im just a little confused by it all.

Also, when using switcher i clear all apps other than the following -

Switcher 44k
EiksrvBackdrop 200k
Telephone 260k
You Have 72k

Free memory remaining 3118k

Therefore total k = 3694 k

Does this seem right

And what is EiksrbBackdrop ?

I thought it was the backdrop picture but its there whether i have a backdrop set or not, any thoughts ? The machine falls over if i close it...

I must confess to the same confusion as that experienced by SteveApp.

On the old Series5 and 5mx, the more applications you had running, the less space you had on your C drive. However, this does not seem to be the case with the 9210.

I've been cowardly in waiting for someone else to answer this question first...... but I am confused. What are the benefits of clearing out the C drive?

In fact, wouldn't it be better to put 'system' applications (like ActiveDesk) on the C drive to speed them up?

Just wanna ask if do you need to format c and the memory card first before reinstalling all the data? Or can you just reinstall them( and direct them to d) bec while installing, the system will automatically recognize an old version .sis and upgrade it w/ a new .sis version?

what is "sheets"? how i can reduse this?

Erm, I'm confused as to why you are all clearing out your C drives, the only advantage you will gain is installing apps as they create temporary files on the C drive during installation. I think some of you are confused though, C drive is a solid state disk, *NOT* RAM. Clearing C drive will not empty your RAM for running apps.
