Hi,
I have a Nokia N97 which is unlocked but branded (Optus, Australia). Like a lot of the people i know and that i've seen on this forum, patience is diminishing for the Optus modified V20. I'm currently on V12 firmware. I'm almost ready to change the product code to get v20 firmware.
However one thing i would not mind is to get the Singapore or Hong Kong region v20 firmware so that i have the ability to type and recognize Chinese characters. At the moment they come up as squares for me. But i have read somewhere that tells you to respect the phone's region and change it to the Australian product code otherwise it may cause problems. Is this true?
So has anyone tried changing their N97's product code to a different region? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
using a Singapore code .. I use one to get Chinese/Japanese support.
The problem with a Hong Kong code is they tend to switch off support for the FM transmitter (at least on N85's this was the case)
I used JAF as opposed to NSS (Nemesis) to switch my N97 ..
ensure you back everything up before doing anything .. reset both your PC (yes using a PC is pretty much required) and phone.
Good Luck!
Thanks for the reply Seki. Much appreciated.
So would it be considered more of a risk to be switching the product code to another region that is not what the phone is intended to be? Ie. Australian Stock nokia N97 with a Singapore product code?
consideration you should take into account is the HARDWARE code .. ensure that you stay within RM-505 codes .. Assuming that yours is an RM-505 model ... check this with *#0000# look down the list for Type
if its NOT an RM-505 you might struggle .. although I think there may be a Philippine code you can use .. but I'm not certain on that.
Good Luck!
My N97 is RM-505 so changing the product code shouldn't be much of a problem. I think will change it to this one:-
0575722: RM-505_APAC_SINGAPORE Black
Thanks for all the the help Seki. 😊
